Most local video games stores and chains such as EB or Gamestop will take pre-orders. But with PS3 quantities being so limited, even putting a deposit down may not guarantee you a machine when it's released.

This *new* game console will rock the world of Microsoft... Take a huge unprecedented amount of shares from XBox. It is a big bite where Microsoft is trying to ascend to the top of the gaming industry.

The manufacturing problems with the PS3 is a huge issue. They cut the projected number of units available at launch by quite a lot. They will undoubtedly be very scarce during the important holiday season. They had to delay the PS3 launch in Europe to next March. When parents buy their kids christmas presents and can't find the PS3, maybe they'll turn to the XBOX 360 instead. I probably won't buy the PS3 when it first comes out. They've had so many manufacturing problems that the machine will probably have a few bugs. If Microsoft lowers the price of the XBOX 360 (which would be the smart thing to do), then I might buy one of those.

At the risk of going off-topic I'm going to throw this out there...

The Nintendo Wii comes out November 13th and the price was just announceda t $250. It won't be hi-def, it won't have the most immersive sound but Nintendo claims, and the E3 reviewers concur that it is the most fun you can have with gaming. The main selling point is the wireless, gyroscopic controller that can be used to simulate motion such as swinging a tennis raquet, golf club, baseball bat, fishing pole, broadsword, flyswatter, etc. It looks like fun and definitely appropriate for someone with small children. Eay to pick up and play and Nintendo is known for games suited for the youngsters.

My 7 yr-old daughter is into Dance Dance Revolution right now. Before, I couldn't get her interested in games but it's the interactivity and ease-of-use that she enjoys the most. The Wii will be under our tree this Christmas.

Nintendo will never have the market share of the PS3 or XBOX 360. Why? Because their games mainly cater to children. Adults will buy the XBOX or PS3 because it has games that cater to adults. Nintendo needs to realize that the people who grew up playing the original nintengo and game boy are in their 20s and 30s now and want to play adult games, not kids games.
