That's OK to ask; we're all friends here :) I think you can get the base for the upper-middle 50's, but they kill you on all the options (unlike just a few reasonably priced packages on the X).
I got:
Nav
Sport package (includes 20-way adjustable seats)
Premium sound (Logic 7 - killer!)
Comfort access (keyless/fobless entry and start)
Heated seats (yes, an option - go figure)
Folding rear seats (yes, an option - go figure)
Rear sun shades
Skipped only the night vision, heads-up display and radar cruise control. ClearBra and XM installed aftermarket; I'm fence sitting on tint as it doesn't really "need" it. Came out around $68.5k pre-tax; deals are/were slim on the 550i, so got $2k off that number.
Tried the 530 first but it didn't have enough grunt compared to the G35c...this one is a real beast - 360hp and 360ftlbs torque. It flies but is very quiet. The rear tires are really FAT - 18x9 with 275/35 tires.
The iDrive isn't as bad as the reviews say it is, though it does have a learning curve. You really don't use it that much (and it has some cool tweaks, like adjusting the hot/cold air bias for upper/middle/lower vents and seat heater butt/back bias; all tied to the specific keyfob, as are radio presets, etc). The voice commands are pretty comprehensive and accurately understood. I find myself using it only to enter Nav destinations, although you can use voice commands for that, too.
FWIW, bought from Niello in Sacramento; took 5 minutes on the phone and it was buttoned up and on order. I had a good experience w/them (family owned) on the Infiniti, and asked for a referral to their BMW dealership. They were great; highly recommended. I know folks here were happy with their Acura dealership, too. |

Nice deal Worm. 360 HP with 360 lbs of Torque. That's amazing when your realize it is a sedan.
Welcome to the bimmer family. I'm waiting on the E90 M3 which is scheduled to come out next year with 4.0L V8 with 415HP.
Enjoy! |

Originally I did. But this one was too nice to pass up.
I don't really miss it. The manu-shift is quite good. (as long as I remember it's engaged...it revs so damn fast!) This is really about as good an auto you can find I think, for the class of car. Same goes for the engine.
If you check the reviews and forums, the AT does not give away much to the 6MT. Except to the very best drivers.
With fairly minor mods sub 5.5 seconds are not uncommon 0 to 60.
Getting below 14 sec 1/4 times is the real challenge without forced induction. One guy posted 14.006 with an AT, and same basic mods I have but with a reflash of the ECU. A hot exhaust should dump him down another tenth fairly easily.
It really is a blast. If you are tracking it regularly you should have the manual.
For twisties, it's not that hard to find a gear with the auto in manual that you can leave it in.
It's the 'pulling' in any gear that really makes you smile, and some hairpin turns. But it's happy cruising too. |
