Hello fello MDX owner.
I upgraded my i tunes to 7.0 and it is pretty nice to operate.It is touchscreen friendly. |

| How did you do that? |
|
|

But it can be easily be done by buying a couple of components
1.A cheap desktop computer
2.A VGA touchscreen from ebay
3.A 12volt power inverter.
This site will also help you out. That's were I got the idea from

| Yes ,I can get wireless internet connection.I usually do it when parked without secure wireless.I have an option of purchasing a subscription from Sprint for an unlimited wireless connection.But I am not willing to pay $60.00 a month for it. |

Do the buttons for the climate control below the trip computer still control your fan, a/c, etc.? If so, how did you keep those active while subbing in the touchscreen for the trip computer display? If not, what do you do when you want to control these functions?
Your install looks great, and I'm hoping to do the same, so your reply is appreciated. |

Those buttons do not work BUT I managed to solder 5 wires attached to 4 buttons on the mode,a/c,fan up and fan down.
YES, It is working but it is just located somewhere else in the car.
Those controls share a common line or ground =1 wire
mode=1 wire
a/c=1 wire
fan up =1 wire
fan down=1 wire
a total of 5 wires solder to each function attached to each individual button
It is somewhat easy if you are not scared.. |

Do you have any pics showing how you re-routed the function of the buttons?
Did you try to figure out a way to keep the original buttons functioning, or did you just go straight for the by-pass idea?
I bought a separate trip computer display unit on Ebay a month or so ago, so that in case I mess this up I can always put the original trip computer back. I was going to try to keep the button functionality while also installing a touch screen, but it looks like it might not be possible.
Once again your assistance and feedback is much appreciated. |

I didn't get a chance to a picture of it . it is possible to have those factory buttons to work.But you will still need to bypass trip computer board and wire them to factory location.. I tried it but the buttons wasn't stable since I am not good at fabricating .. If it comes down to the time you need those pictures .I will probably take a picture of it for you. Feel free to ask me any question and I will try to help you out or any body who wants a pc in there car.I am not any specialist on car pc but I can probably help anybody on what to read about ( to help anybody understand )..I just don't know computer software.
I have the wires for the trip computer wired up and tested working fine but I haven't decided where to relocate them. I was thinking of putting it on the top edge of the cup holder ( center console)That's why I don't have a picture of it.
I have this system for months now and so happy with it..All of my friends are so wanting to have one..( especially the computer geeks)
I usually check this site everyday . |

Thanks. I'm going to take the extra trip computer display unit apart and see if there is a way to keep the climate control buttons working and in place. I don't care that much about the trip computer features, I'll have a lot more than that if I hook up one of those engine diagnostic connections to the car pc.
The pics of your re-routed buttons would be great when you get a chance. |

Well, I tried to get a better shot of pictures But I think is the best My camera can do.. This Pics shows where the wires are soldered on the control board.
Left to right
1 = fan up (white #1)
2= fan down (black)
3= Ac on and ac off (red) the other side of this switch is black wire(which is the common line or ground that those buttons share )
4= mode ( white #2)
The control board is flip upside down.facing the lilliput screen .. |

In my opinion , you can probably operate the ac and defrost with out putting back the trip computer's 2 boards. As I can recall that I couldn't somewhat control was fan control.
If you look at the picture at the bottom.On the top of the word Trip computer.I used those controls.
As an Example
I would press AUTO .If it was too cold ,I would increase the temperature.If it was too hot,I would decrease the temperature.
And If the windshield got too foggy. I would push the defrost button(next to off button) and increase the temp until it goes away..
On a different subject. (If you look the word brightness) the remote control's sensor for lilliput screen is located.I can turn on the screen via remote. You also bypass the lilliput functions which I did..It can turn on also via switch.. |

Hmmm. I like the idea of removing the brightness slider and having the remote sensor there, but I don't like the idea of re-routing the buttons. It might not be avoidable, but I'll tear into it and see what I can come up with.
Did you take the cover off the touch screen before you installed it in the dash, or did you just set it right up against the trip computer bezel? Did you fabricate some sort of mount for the touch screen to keep it in place, or how do you keep it from being knocked around?
Thanks again for your help and information. |
