Just purchased Eagle Eye backup sensor. I'd like to know if it's a good idea to install all four on the gray section of the bumper. I'm afraid they may be too close together. What do you think?
Tuan
The 4 black dots are the locations where I plan to install the sensors.

I think it would be fine. If connect them that way...I have seen Expedition and Escalade with 4 sensors in the back bumper..

Just my 2 cents..

I would take advantage of this system and find a way to put 2 in the front bumper and 2 in the back bumper..
Tuan
Hmm...I didn't think about the front bumpers. It can be a challenge trying to wire the sensors from the front to the control unit. Besides, the dead bugs I hit everyday may deactivate the sensors from the front. This would be great if the sensors are kept clean all the time.

2 rear ones drilled and installed. I'm not sure what to do with the other two. I'll have to be creative. I may take up on doenutts idea and install the other 2 in the front. Anyone object?

One problem: The sensor wire is not long enough to reach the control box, which will be installed in the rear storage compartment.

Closeup of the left sensor.

Those look very good. I would like to add those to my X. How difficult were they to install?

Tuan,
Did you test these yet? Was curious if the two sensors are enough to detect objects behind you no matter if they are left, center or right.

Phins2rt,
Just tested them today. I came to a conclusion that it's not enough, so I decided to drill a center hole to install a center one. I live in Fresno, the central valley in Cali, which can be foggy in the winter. I wanted to make sure that there are enough sensors to pick up any obstructions. I don't think it's necessary to have all 4 in the rear, but this is only my opinion.

Himath,

The rear ones didn't take long at all. It took me several hours because I was trying to be creative while installing. I also wanted to make sure there's enough space behind the bumper to fit the sensors, which are about 1" deep. Now that I know, I want to save time for those that want to install the "button" sensors. Make sure you drill into the convex parts like I showed in the latter pix. Do NOT drill into the concave parts, where I placed the black dots when I was planning. There's not enough space behind the convave sections of the bumper.

I'll be installing the last one in the front tomorrow. Wiring the front one was a bit difficult, because I wired it on the exterior of the vehicle. I couldn't figure out a way to wire through the dash. Maybe someone here can.

The best part of this is that I got it on ebay for $30 + shipping. The model I got display the distance in meters rather than feet, but it's good enough for me. The beeps will be suffice most of the time. The display will be used for parallel parking when I need exact distance.

Problem: I'm not sure how to activate the front sensor on "drive" The control box is made to activate all 4 sensors on "reverse."

I think I'll have to make a switch to turn on the control unit manually.

I have the same system for my wifes ody but did not get a chance to install this summer.

I'm thinking of installing on my X.

I was thinking of painting them - - do you know if they are paintable?
