| Searched thru the forum but havent found any recent ones on the MDX headlight bulbs. I have an 06 MDX and I'm very interested in replacing the stock light bulbs to something brighter. However, I don't really want to spend money to get the HID. Are there any recommended bulbs that are brighter than the 06 stock ones? I've found forums where people talked about Razo and PIAA bulbs that look similar to the HID but the forums were from 2001. Will it make a big difference if I replace the stock bulbs with either Razo or PIAA ones? I want brighter and bluer bulbs (that are legal, of course) and last at least a year...Are there any other recommended brands? Thank you. |

I highly recommend the Hoen bulbs also. I was hesitant at first because I was not very familiar with the brand, but the cost was reasonable, they're brighter, and they look much better than Silverstars. So far all the Hoen bulbs I got (headlights & fogs) have lasted over a year and a half.
See my Headlight How-To Guide for info and some interesting comparison pics. |

| What about the visibility from the driver's point-of-view? Is it brighter? My friend told me not to get one because he used to have one and he couldnt see a thing with the bulbs on... |

Dear Morph
Great post and many thanks.
I also saved my old bulbs when I went to the Silver Stars.
My '03 is coming off lease and I will swap back to the OEM, keeping the Silver Stars for my new '06.
Like your comments on the fogs - I just could not get my hands in there and swapped out only the high and low beams with the Silver Stars.
I went to the Silver Stars because they are readily available on Ebay for less than $20 a pair.
I have been satisfied with them.
JeffK
PS: I am an avid reader of Consumer Reports and find there findings usually "right on". Several months ago they did a report comparing OEM to replacement bulbs and found little or no difference.
My real world experience is contrary. Anyone else read the article? |

Absolutely, in my opinion the illumination is significantly brighter and clearer than the stock bulbs. I have not had any issues at all with visibility while using Hoen bulbs.
This is a very easy and relatively inexpensive modification that makes a dramatic improvement both functionally and cosmetically. |

I think it's pretty subjective. There are many, many "blue" or "xtreme white" or "super white" bulbs out there that might give nice color, but definitely dim your light output. Unless you've got a true and accurate measure of lumens, you'll never really know if your replacements outperform the stock bulbs.
For your headlights, be cautious with brands like Luminics, Nokya, and MTEC, all have nice color but don't really outperform stock bulbs. The Hoens are pretty good, and PIAA's are probably the best you can get (for both color and light output) in halogen replacements( I'm VERY happy with my PIAA's on my Tacoma). I've heard good things about the Osram (non US varieties) and Phillips blue vision bulbs, but have never personally used them. |

do you need to change the wiring harness (for Acura MDX 2006) when switching from stock low beam bulbs to Hoen H11 (xenonmatch titanium)
thank you! |

No. It's strictly a bulb change since it's an H11 base. |

| What is the wattage difference between thestock bulbs and Hoen bulbs? |

Dear Morph:
Saved my SilverStar 9005 and 9006 from my '03 MDX and have installed them in my '06 MDX.
Like you, I save the OEM bulbs in the SilverStar containers.
My question is with the Low Beams which are the H11.
As far as I can determine, there are no SilverStar H11. Have you found SilverStars in the H11?
Both PIAA and HOEN make upgraded H11. I note you used the Titanium Plus which is rated at 70 watts, vs. OEM at 55 watts.
Have you had any problems?
I realize that the 70 watt, like the 80 watt are "plug ins". I am afraid of using the 80 watts because of the heat they will produce.
I was thinking of using the 55 watt bulbs, but note that you installed the 70 watt bulb.
