Was windering what u guys think of oil changes
every 2500 miles under severe conditions with
conventional oil?
Wouldn't hurt but probably costy, right?
:D |

| Fine, but believe you could easily go to 3000-3750 mile interval instead of 2500 miles. |

It can't hurt , but yes, if you are looking for opinions, that's overkill. What are your extreme conditions? |

| Define severe. Last weekend I was in the Mojave Desert, this weekend I saw the season's first snow in Tahoe and went mountain biking in it, starting around 8700 feet. Is that severe? It doesn't seem that severe to me. Not too much dust and no salt on the roads. I'll change after ~4-5K. |

| Living here in Honolulu, Hawaii, we have such severe driving conditions that I make it a point to do an oil change and tire rotation every 5,000 miles.:D |

I'm only doing about 600miles/month on my X. I have about 1900 miles on her now. A this rate I'll only need an oil change every 6 months or so.
Do you think I should go in for changes earlier than that? Most people here say 3500miles is the right interval but doesnt the oil degrade as it ages? If you were me when would you get your first change?
Thanks !!! |

You're fine on that schedule. Oil is MUCH better than it was years ago. Save your $$, conserve resources and don't worray about it. Search on this topic and you'll find MANY posts and links. |

| Maintenance schedules for oil change say 7,500 in normal condition. Though circumstances exist base on driving environment. There's nothing wrong changing oil between 2,500 to 7,500 miles, beside your engine will probably like it. |

| You should change your engine oil every 3500 miles only or every 3months .....:4: |

Why do you not follow what is recommended in your owners manual?

Isn't there a time limitation too? I don't have a manual at hand, but usually they recommend 7,500 miles or 1 year whichever comes first. If you are not trying to keep the vehicle for an extended period of time (over 100K/5 years), then there is no reason not to follow Acura's recommendation. A Honda/Acura engine will last well beyond that with recommended oil change intervals (time or mileage) so changing the oil sooner is really just wasting money. |

depends a lot on the type of oil.
if you want to be absolutely sure then do a one time UOA (used oil analysis) including TBN at say 3000 miles and see how the engine is wearing and how much life is left in the oil. |

| Don't fall for the hype. Every 4000-4500 miles should be fine. |

It all depends on your driving conditions. Don't buy into the hype of oil changes every 3K miles. Most, if not all, manuals say 7500 miles and if your driving conditions are not harsh, that is fine. I always stick to 7500 miles and in 22 years of driving cars, some to 140-160K miles, I have never had any problems. In 22 years, I have saved well over $1000 in oil changes.
On the other hand, if you drive in traffic a lot or in dusty environments, I would do the 3K mi oil changes. |
