When I see a story like this, it make me wonder whether it is really worth it. I'm not here trying to bash Bush because in fact, I am a republican. But it really troubles me that our purpose seems to have been lost.

Eventually, Iraq must learn to rebuild from within. It seems such a waste of human life, on all sides.

I'm in the Army. I have been over there twice and still don't know what we are doing over there. When you find out, let me know. I really want to know what exactly I have been risking my life and well-being for.

Probably not much consolation, but thank you just the same!

Highmath,

Thanks for your service!

As for Iraq, I too disagree, and am also a Republican. Not all of us drink the coolade.

Coolade ??????????? :2: :2: :2: :2: OK it's pretty lame of me to make fun of this spelling on a thread such as this but sometimes I just revert back to being 12 again!! (Especially after a six pack and another solid win for Da Bears!!!!!)Again sorry for being so petty!!

You may not be drinking the coolade now.... but back in 2003 you definitely were. ;)

Speak for yourself. I didn't vote for Bush. And I signed up for Afghanistan, not Iraq.

I recall quite distinctly that back in 2003 you were a big supporter of the US going to war in Iraq. It's good to see your desire to repudiate your prior views.

I don't recall that but if you show me the quotes. . . then I'll agree.

Regardless, I'm exercising my right to disagree. . .

Not surprisingly, you ask for quotes from a thread regarding the war in Iraq that you know (as well as I do) was deleted .... how disingenuous of you.

Fact: You were a strong supporter of the war in Iraq back in 2003 until it became evident to you that things weren't going as Bush & Co. planned.

I think I can remember my own position regarding the invasion of Afghanistan. As most of the country did, especially after what occured here in NYC, I supported it wholeheartedly. However, since you are accusing me of being a liar, trying to pick a fight, it seems futile trying to have a civil conversation with you.

I think all the forumers here supported the war in Afghanistan.... so making that an issue is a red herring.

Why can't you just admit that early on you supported the war in Iraq (first half of 2003).... then you changed your mind when the facts (as opposed to the propaganda from Bush) came out? I think it was admirable of you to change your mind once things became more clear.

What isn't so admirable is your present denial that you originally supported the war and being so disingenuous about it (i.e. asking for quotes from a thread that you know was deleted).... that's the only behavior I see here that makes having a civil (and honest) conversation futile.

I think you're splitting hairs now. My support of the war was for Afghanistan. But once Bush made it about Iraq, the country, as well as myself, had a change of heart. However, I wouldn't characterize my initial support as a wholehearted accept everything the SOB spits out of his mouth. With that said, I think Iraq has already greatly divided this country and further alienated us from our former Allies.
