Designed to compete with the likes of the Pilot (rather than the MDX). The CX-7's big brother.
It's longer than a Pilot, and the third row has more legroom, and there's a bit more cargo room behind the third row. Fold down the second and third rows, and there's 100.7 cubic feet of room available.
263 horsepower engine, 2WD or AWD. Six-speed transmission with sportshifting.
Can be optioned out with navi, DVD screen, rear-view camera, 20" wheels, xenons, memory seats, etc.
Priced from $29k to upper thirties.
Here's an Edmunds "First Look":

Not bad, not bad at all...
Hmmmm, might consider since I'm a big fan of the Mazda RX-7. |

| Price sure is right. It will be interesting to test both this and the MDX in the fully loaded versions and see if its worth the extra $10k |

| I kinda like it. And if it comes fully loaded for say, $38K, I can definitely see it stealing some MDX (and Pilot) sales. |

OK, I actually like the looks (mostly). I needed a car this Spring so I got the 06 Pilot but I would have certainly looked at the CX-9. Maybe when I replace my 01 MDX?
Re: those photos - those sure look like the "spy shots" that some thought were the 07 MDX at first. |

We looked at the CX-7 recently. Not bad Not bad at all. Not quite as nice as the current gen MDX and a bit less user friendly but considering the the low price point its DEFINATELY going to pull sales away from a 40k RDX. Now if the CX-9 gets closer in size to the MDX and can be fully loaded out at 35-38k again it WILL pull sales away from Acura.
Dont get me wrong the Acura MDX will be a superior vehicle but its STILL not luxury area. They are trying though. My sense is the CX-9 is a poor boys XC90. I still would take the XC90 over the CX series but not over the MDX. But with Acura playing with the 40-50k price points with both of its newest SUV's I can see a real market for the CX's. |

I can see that happening too. But once the redesigned Pilot comes outs, Honda will corner the market again.

I think Mazda is doing a lot right lately. I like the CX 7 & 9, and I didn't really care for the 07' MDX. They had one at the dealer today. Hate the front grill. Looks like and is plastic. Looks like a blown up RDX which just doesn't translate well in my eyes. And the ceiling is lower so you feel more enclosed.
Now the RDX on the other hand was perfect in my eyes outside of the bad gas mileage. I put about 100 miles on one today. A guy in a Durango thought he could run with me. Had the RDX up to 110 with about 30-40 yards on the Durango when he gave up. The RDX was still asking for more pressure on the pedal. At 80 it wasn't even over 3000rpm. Fit and finish was superb. Made me think I was in my old Audi. If the gas mileage was better, I'd be driving one right now instead of the MDX. My suggestion of a simple economy or normal/perfomance button with two tuning settings seemed like a shared sentiment among everyone at the dealer, and many said that you'll most likely see something like that on next year's model.
Never made it over to the Mazda lot, but I've heard nothing but rave reviews on the CX7. Didn't hear anything on the mpg. Would hope it doesn't share the same flaw as the RDX. But the CX9 does seem like a Pilot killer and MDX stealer. And while I can see the Freestyle similarities, The CX9 has a more aerodynamic sporty look. |
