Disregard Bourmb's post. If you drove away feeling OK about the deal you did good, so DON'T LOOK BACK. Someone, somewhere, may do better, or even worse. It doesn't matter. Just enjoy the car. That's why you bought it. Once I purchase a car, house, refrigerator, whatever, the deal is in concrete and can't be changed anyway so why check to see if you could have gotten a better deal? Forget it. Enjoy it, and purchase the service manual so you can do a lot of the DIY work and get to know the vehicle better, PLUS you will save a bunch of $$$.

I agree. Some people just want to make a big deal out of the fact that they got a better deal. As long as you are happy, that is what is important. Car costs can change widely from one part of the country to another or even from day to day.

I am very happy that my '07 is scheduled to be built today. I know a lot of people here are saying they are ugly, they don't like them, or the prices will drop like a rock. I am buying one to make myself happy, I'm not trying to please every one else.

I know how you feel, you like to know you got a good deal. you want to know that you got VALUE, which is to say you got the best quality equal to the best price. It is an aspiration of many who shop and spend money, they want to maximize their dollars that they spend. It's an economic idea because for every $1 you spend you have to earn $3. So knowing you got the best VALUE is a comforting feeling. In the end you may have only spent a few thousand more or less than any other person, so it isn't a great deal, whereas a house is a bigger piece of change. And finally, in 10 years your MDX will be worth much less...$10,000-7,0000. And then even further...in 80 years we will all be dead and we must really ask ourselves does it really matter? It's not the toys we buy or the jobs we have it's all about family - that is true happiness and that is what is really going to matter. But back to your car, it sounds reasonable, perhaps a $1,000-$500 decrease would have been better given that it's end of the 2006 model year lifecycle.

You did well. Check out Edmunds.com and you'll see the TMV for the 06s are around invoice or below. The dealer is getting a couple thousand back from Honda to sell the 06s, so that's why what you paid is ok. You can't get the dealer to give you much if any of the holdback, that's his profit...compare what you paid to the the 50K it seems the 07s are going for and you should jump for joy.

I am going to have to disagree about your comment on the holdback money. You can absolutely get all the holdback money. It all depends on your knowledge, negotiation skills and the demand of the car.
I am going to be honest to the original poster and say that you could have probably saved about $1k if you did your homework first and post this question before you bought the car. It's a mood point now. That is why there is no point in asking this kind of questions after the fact. Enjoy the car as it's still a pretty good deal for a excellent ride.

You can also check out www.carsdirect.com to see the price they are selling the '06 MDX's. You can buy directly from carsdirect or use their price to negotiate a better deal directly with the dealer.

Enjoy your new MDX...
