With all those washing and scrubbing, you think one day the paint will just start peeling off....
I can do that with the expenses of soap and water.... |

WOW I thought I was anal when cleaning my vehicles, he takes the cake.
very impressed with the process, and putting on wax by hand is something i have never seen. |

What a joke. For even $500 I expect better than that.
1) Use of a foam gun or two bucket wash technique, not the one bucket he uses
2) Removal of wheels for cleaning the inside, plus cleaning and dressing the wheel wells
3) That expensive Zymol wax is a joke. Pinacle Souveran at $65 a jar is better.
4) I'd expect another wash after claying (maybe it was performed but not shown)
The use of a paint gauge was a nice touch though. |

Well, I didn't get quite the reaction I expected over on a dedicated detailing forum. First of all, everyone was annoyed for recycling the subject (hey, I did a search and didn't find anything, the old threads were probably lost in a hacker attack). Most of the pros admired the guy for building a successful business and a reputation that allows him to charge the high prices he charges. No one had serious problems with his techniques or products, and everyone was envious of his paint gauge. It was pointed out that his process is entirely appropriate for a garage queen, just not for a daily driver. I'll insert comments in my original post where the regular posters pointed out why they thought I was wrong to criticize his process.

These cars aren't dirty like the ones we're normally used to detailing. And if you're going to polish anyway, you'll get rid of any marring introduced during washing.

The price is ridiculous, but the wax itself isn't bad. It's just overpriced.

Quick rinse is all that's needed if you're going to machine polish afterwards.

This one everyone agreed on. |

Jhue do detail for a living?
what do u think of Zaino? |

jhue,
When can I come over to your place for a detailing party? My MDX could definitely do with some attention. I waxed it two weeks ago with Nufinish, but that's about the limit of my expertise. I had some clay, but my son stole it to use in a science project.
Dressing wheel wells. Never thought about that. One weekend in Tahoe would put that work to waste, but its a cool idea. I sometimes clean the insides of my wheels when I take them off in spring/fall to swap the snows on/off.
Seriously though, can I make an appointment to come over and have you school me on making my car look nice. It needs it. I'll bring beer, food, 420, whatever it takes. :1: |

Nope, just an enthusiast, which means I can spend more time screwing around with my car because I don't have to worry about making a living at the same time.
My main interest is in restoring damaged and/or badly weathered paint. Any idiot can wipe on and wipe off a coat of sealant.

what do u think of Zaino?
The thing I hate most about Zaino are the clueless noobs who couldn't buff out a paint swirl if their life depended on it who consistently tout the product on forums like this. I've seen the following idiotic statements made by these clueless Zaino zealots:
1) Zaino Z-2 polishes the paint smooth and leaves no protection behind
2) Claying will remove swirls and scratches from the paint
People making statements like those are clearly completely clueless and should not be handing out advice. They need to STFU and learn something first.
By the way - claying without polishing afterwards as per Zaino's instructions - that's strictly a rookie procedure.
It's a good product, one of the best sealants available, and has great longevity. But if you are a real detailing nut and putting fresh sealant or wax on the car every month or two, you don't need the longevity, and that opens up use of many other products that look just as good or better than Zaino. |

Very good points you made here, I myself am the type of guy that I REFUSE to drive my car dirty. I wash/wax/polish religously but I have to say the pics of these vehicles with zaino are very impressive |

That was one bright sunny day.
I'm not the most religious in washing and detailing my cars, but for $10K, I would like my car be washed and detailed indoors. |

No I have 2 cars my everyday car and my special car. Agreed in the winter is does get somewhat dirty but if it is over 32degrees i am cleaning the car every week.
I am the same way with my house, I just think if you are going to pay alot of money for something you shoudl take care of it.
What part of Mass are you in? |

In addition to being a master technician, in my youth I've won many a concours de elegance.
Taking off wheels to clean the inner rim(and lug nuts) and suspension/brake parts is common.
Zymol being applied with bare fingers is actually what is recommended on the jar if I remember right.
Cleaning and dressing wheelwells really makes a world of difference to make a vehicle look like it's still brand new.
This guy charging 10 grand for that is absurd. When you come to the point where you're using a toothbrush to dig bugs out of and straighten the fins on radiators/condensors, then maybe...maybe you're providing a detail that worth something over a grand. Too bad for me I only charged $500 back then. |

You're not equipped with the correct anatomical features necessary to persuade me to detail, or teach you to detail your car.
On second thought, given that my brother-in-law raided my detailing supplies last weekend, I might be willing to whore myself out for a restock on detailing clay and polish. Send me a PM. |

Why do you have a vehicle? Where do you drive it?
I like to keep a vehicle clean. However, there are limits. I just five minutes ago washed, vacuumed, etc my wife's Cadillac DHS. I go so far as using a real chamois, but I sure won't go underneath.
But, it sure is nice having a relatively small vehicle like the DHS to clean. I am used to the bigger vehicles.

I work from home full time. I drive twice a week to the grocery store etc.....I've been lucky to avoid the rain or take a dirt/gravel road:eek:
It just flipped to 18,000 miles and will be 3 years this coming June 19th.
Call me Granny...........:1: :1: :1:
Long trips: Numerous times to Long Beach, Los Angeles and San Francisco for business appointments etc.....I recently took it to Yosemite/Fresno and Monterey Bay with my parents who were visiting.....I've been lucky to avoid rainy days I suppose.....
Oil is changed every 5000 miles with Mobil One 5w30 Syn with Mobil One M-104 oil filter. Tire rotated every 5000 miles since I don't drive it that much......Air filter and AC filters recently changed by me. When I call my dealership they say "You are fine" no need to bring it in........;) ;) ;) |

I'm searching my warped brain for a good Bay Area / MDX Tranny joke here.
My son stole my detailing clay last week for use in a science project - it became some part of a cell model he created from a cut soccer ball, some saran wrap, a few finger cots filled with mint jelly, some cut up insulating foam and a bit of speaker wire. It actually looked pretty cool. |
