Well, demograpics for Acura MDX owners is similar to Infinity, Lexus, Volvo, BMW, etc.., We are usually a financially sufficient and stable group of 30,40,50+ owners that have been around the block and had our Camaro's, Beetles, and everything else Detroit and foreign markets had to offer. We filtered it out and settled on dependable good technology.

BTW. What's your history and background, and how did you get to MDX?

Well I have owned a few cars in my day starting off with the import racing scene then realizing speed is not everything I sold my Eclipse GSX and bought my 04 G35 sedan with Nav/sport.

Loved the car and I had no problems with her, so I came to the conclusion you get what you pay for so from there on out i was going to with something I enjoyed driving.

I recently built a house and had my daughter all in the same year, I had my G35 but sold it and was driving a 06 accord. I wanted another vehicle and was really leaning towards another sedan BUT the person who runs the house (wife) said she wanted a bigger vehicle. Seeing as we had car seats, strollers and always getting things for the house she wanted a suv.

I am not the suv type but i went along with idea seeing the need for such a vehicle. Drove the Highlander,Rx330,Fx35,Pilot and finally the MDX. Basically I fell in the love with the truck, it handles like a car but has the utility of a suv. When I found out the price i was floored and seriously considered buying the truck. Researched the vehicle and made the purchased this past week and i am VERY happy.

How about yourself?

Awesome..............

Congrates on the new family member. We all grow up, welcome to the club. In '92 we didn't have the Tokyo Rave, I was Toyota (Steve Millen) Slammed mini-truck clone and identical from Trucking Mag version, for 1 year. (Fad over). More vehicles in-between since.

Again welcome.

Well, lets put it this way:

my first car was a 1953 Ford with a flat head V8, stick on the column, 4 door sedan. Black of course. Bought it used while in high school.

Since then, I have owned it all.

My first new car, a 1962 Chevy Impala Super Sport. Still my favorite!

I bought my first Honda, a new 1988 Accord LX which we put over 397,000 miles on.

My wife got her 01MDX to replace her 1998 Honda Accord coupe I totaled in August of 2000.

I got the 06MDX I drive now.

I think I am going to lower the average age on this forum. I am 21, very fortunate to have the MDX as a new car since 05. My first car was a 1994 volvo, and then went on to the MDX in 05. Test drove the RX330 and the MDX only, didn't want to bother with german cars because I didn't want to get to know my service guy by their first name. Love the X for its spacious interior and design. Handled well in severe weather too with confidence.

:2: I'll be 64 in Jan. 07, My first car was a 1939 Ford Coach when I was 16. Then came '40 Ford Coupe, 46 Pontiac, 49 Ford Sedan. And then the Navy at 18.

Starting in 1968 I had a new Ford or GM every second year untill I bought my 03 MDX in 03. It now has 183,000 Km and the best vehicle I have ever driven (made in Canada), my new 07 MDX should be here this week :)

I'm proud of y'all youngsters, Welcome aboard! Sarcasm aside, welcome.

I'm 45 and proud to say, I passed on the option to take auto-shop, and instead took Metal-shop in high school. I traded my tweaked 70 Camaro and got a 32' Ford pick-up; chopped, channeled over the frame, and rebuilt a 327 Chevy with a GM THD400 tyranny and '65 Ford diff. I was friggin 17. My dad hated me for 6 months with it in the garage. You should have seen the face on the auto shop kids when I rolled it in. I'm not settled, when garage space permits, I'm building a Deuce as a retirement project.

Just an embellishment...next.....

Personally, I've been driving cars for years. When I got the X, I referred to it as an SUV, which is what I believe is technically correct. An employee refers to it as my "truck" when asking things like, "How's the new truck running?" and "Did you take your truck?" I rather liked the connotation so, it stuck.

While the MDX drives and rides like a car, I like the truck reference. After all, it is 4WD and is supposed to pull big boats and such. It sits up high and is rather utilitarian inside, etc. I'm sticking with truck.

If my wife drove it, I'd probably call it an SUV. Incidentally, some folks don't know what an MDX is so, when when people look puzzled, I clarify the vehicle is an SUV.

There you have it, my $0.02 worth.

How funny. The guy I bought my X from was from Dallas and all through the purchase he called it a "Rig". I'm thinking, "Will and Sonny, 18 wheeler". He kept referring to it like as in "It's been a nice rig" etc. Guess what? I started referring to it as "A rig". Weird huh? That must be a Texas dialect for sure. Where's BigHersh? He could confirm this.

How did a poll on owners age get hijacked to

That reminds me of the movie (and book) Christine where the teen that bought the demonic car started referring to everyone as "$hitters" just like the considerably older previous owner did.

Still holding onto my 30's - at least for 3 more months.

I certainly agree that it is a truck (at least that is what florida charges my for in liscense plates) however, it is not "After all, it is 4WD and is supposed to pull big boats and such."

It is not a 4WD and it is not supposed to pull big boats. The limit on a boat is 4,500 lbs.

My insurance calls it a 4WD. The Tank sticker says "VTM - 4 - Wheel Drive System. It's the chassis of the Honda Ridgeline (Truck). However, I agree, I'm not strapping a 21' SeaRay on the arse of this thing. :2:

The Ridgeline is beefed up quite a bit with boxed and reinforced frame rails/etc. The MDX is closer to the Ody. Many don't even call the Ridgeline a real truck...........

Look, nobody said it could compete with a Ford F-600,000,000 or anything. It just looks and feels like a refined "truck."

As for not being 4WD, I was clearly bamboozled as I thought that big button on the dash that reads "VTM-4 LOCK" actually meant something.

Now, I realize you don't have to get out and manually lock the hubs but, if it's not a close proximity to 4WD then why is it only active at very low speeds?

Okay, here's a scenario. You are backing out of your driveway, and not paying attention. You accidently get stuck in your flower bed, no biggie, just hit the VTM-Lock button and relax, your rescued.

I would guess that Acura deactivates the 4wd system at low speeds because it is not a full time 4wd system (like Suby/Audi/Etc). It protects the system from damage from those oblivious owners who would drive around with the system on in non-slippery conditions (with tires scrubbing and all during turns), and then bring it in with failed diff clutches and say, I don't know what happened, it just broke. If you are driving at higher speeds and the system needs to come on, it will automatically, then it will shut off when it doesn't need to be on.

Sounds like someone didn't really do their homework before they bought......

Hey, Hey ,Hey, now JL_SS, I think I did do my homework and fully comprehend what the 4WD capabilities of the MDX are.

The discussion started with someone questioning my reference to the MDX as a "truck."

I've got it that VTM is fully automatic and can be locked at low speeds for pulling a boat up a ramp or when stuck in a snowbank.

I've got no problems with how the system works. In fact, it's one of the reasons I chose this vehicle.

I was just goofin' with another poster concerning the truck issue.

I still say it's a truck, just a sophisticated one.

Most Texans have TRUCKS on the brain, and since soem full size trucks (Ram) and all the heavy Duties (Diesels) aspire to be "Baby Kenworth's" some old truck guys, who bought an MDX, refer to it- or anything that's supposed to be a "truck" as a "rig".

I'm from Louisiana, so my problem is, I call everything a "car", even when I'm talking about my truck or MDX. When I catch myself, I correct it- but, when I get to "jawing" or "writing" "car" will flow out, just as easily as "truck". LOL

That's TX/LA for you though...

We are the only people I know, who'll ask you what kind of "Coke" do you want. And when you reply, "What do you have?" We'll say, "I've got Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, Coke, Sprite, Sunkist..."

It annoyed me, to hang with my cousins from Chicago, who referred to "soda" as "pop". But, they got annoyed at us "country folk" fopr calling "pop" soda...

In East TX, they go a step further, by calling a soft drink, "Soda-water".

Exchange:
Waitress: What would you like to drink?
East-Texan: I'll take a Soda-Water.
Waitress: A Soda Water? (Instantly translating this to mean soft drink)
East Texan: Yeah.
Waitress: What kind?
East Texan: I'll take a Coke.
Waitress: And you ma'am?
East Texan's wife: I'll take an "ernge".
Waitress: We don't have orange.
East Texan: I'll take a 7-Up then
Waitress: Will a Sprite do?
East Texan's wife: Yes.
