Iam planning to be in LA for 5 days in NOV for vacation. Whats out there to see in 5 days, or is 5 days less to be in that area. How many hours does it take to travel by road from LAX to San Fransisco ?
sandjunkie

Los Angeles, city of angels, there's Disney Land, Universal Studio, Hollywood fame of Boulevard, etc. go to your travel agent and ask for more same for San Francisco.

San Francisco, city by the bay, there's Fisherman Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge, take the cable train ride through downtown San Francisco and avoid Castro Street, don't say I didn't warn you. Avoid Oakland city hoodlum area at all cost, there about to reach a high homicide record 100+ within a year.

Hours distance between L.A. and S.F is roughly 7 hours as Kunb stated, though for me its 5.5 hours to 9 hours base on traffic condition.

Oh oh, them are fighting words for x factor (if he is still lurking around here -- I believe he is from Oakland if I am not wrong)

Looks like from LA , I will be going to San Fransisco and then back to LA and then drive to Las Vegas and then back to LA to catch my return flight to IAD. All in 5-6 days. I guess I will be able to see all the important sites.

Dude, that works out to 2 days in each place. LA for 2 days, SF for 2 days and LV for 2 days. When you figure 7 hours to drive to SF, half the day shot, some sight seeing, then drive back to LA the next day, then drive to Las Vegas about 5 hours, gamble, sight see and drive back to LA the next day. That's a lot of driving. It would be faster and easier to fly.

Good Luck

I forgot to tell you that the road from LA to Las Vegas (I-15) is under construction this month, maybe until November. The drive will be loooooooong.

With that schedule you will not be seeing anything except asphalt.

The above info was really good to plan in advance. I now changed my plans. Landing in SFO on the 18th and on 19th - travel by road to LA and then on the 20th, travel by road to las vegas. Fly out from Las vegas on the 23rd to IAD. Iam assuming I-15 will be open at least partially and since its mid-week, Iam not anticipating rush hour traffic.
Hope with this schedule, Iam going to see less of Asphalt. :-D

Enjoy your trip.

This trip started out as 5 days in Los Angles on vacation.. That was reasonable.

Now you are down to landing in San Francisco, traveling to Los Angles and then traveling to Las Vegas. Still seeing mostly asphalt with a two day stop in Las Vegas. You will not see much of Vegas in two days but it does give you some time to gamble.

Why do you not pick one destination and make it your vacation spot? That way you will not be traveling so much and will have time to see the place that you pick.

Personally I would pick either San Francisco or Las Vegas and spend the whole time there. I have spent a week solid at both places at various times and plan to spend at least that much there again.

If you are going to LA for family fun. I suggest you spend more time In Los Angeles..We have alot of theme parks and sightseeing than San Francisco.( no offense to the Bay area). But if you going to Cali with the Wifey(just the 2 of you).Try to make the best time that you got and have fun..

Just to inform of the price of admission of Disneyland.I was there with my kids last week and The adult price is $63.00 and the kids are $55.00..Parking was $11.00 and the food inside the theme park was overpriced( like all theme parks). When I was at Disneyland,my legs got sore from walking alot( like a good cardio exercises)...

As far as Las Vegas, That's one of the most exciting place for adults (without kids or parents who got babysitting)..Just walk the strip and you find a lot free shows..Don't be suprise to see people drinking liquor or beer on the streets.Vehicle Passengers drinking too..Its legal there.Remember People don't call it SIN CITY for nothing..

There's nothing in LA other then theme parks and celebrity stores... The San Francisco Bay Area and the greater outside Bay Area offer more view and scenery. Take the tour around SF, the bay, outstanding crabs and fishes by Fisherman's Wharf. After that, fly to Las Vegas and enjoy both the shows and my favorite gambling.

Silverado . Don't change the subject and turn this thread to NoCal versus SoCal. You can be proud of your Golden Gate Bridge(which you pay a toll for),Fisherman's Wharf,( which we also have in LA),and your stupid Crooked Street etc...I would rather go the winery and taste all the fine wines that Napa Valley offers..I am a do it type of guy and not a look the scenery guy.I was simply giving Kun B some information .

If you want to see a lot of gay people . Stay in San Francisco .. That's what San Francisco is well known for..

Also ,Socal's weather is way warmer than the bay area around the time you are on vacation..

Thanks everyone for all the great tips (incl the I-5 construction). Finally I decided to visit SFO and LAS. I have a 2 1/2 year old kid and she is not yet ready for theme parks yet. I will be flying out from SFO to LAS to save some time.
