Hi all,
I've been reading this forum for a couple years and bought a 2001 certified used back in 2004. Forum is a great help but now since I am coming up on 100K miles (bought it with 40K) I'd like some opinions on which way to go since warranty is close to out. I had new tranny, springs, and egr work all done for free (thanx Acura certified warranty), and since the high miles and age of vehicle won't get much on resale- I think maybe best bet is keep it, do the belts, etc at 105K or so and hope for the best. I assume Honda/Acura motor should go a long time and everything else on MDX is fine- vehicle looks/drives like new. I probably won't be driving the 25K miles /year any more after this year so I can go a long time as long as vehicle keeps going. Any thoughts on longevity- especially from anyone who has gone past the 100K barrier.??

Thanx,
Rich R

I dont have a a100k X, but based on what I read from this forum, all I can say is 2003 and new X, can easily go past 130k without any major problems. Keep in mind that this is an import and historically speaking honda / toyotas and nissans all have exceptionally long life.

I sold my last Acura for $1500 with 225K on it. I saw it driving around town for at least another year+ after selling it. It was a 1989 Integra LS and I sold it in 1998. Not bad.

My MDX has 135K and still runs great. I get a little nervous when I hear noises sometimes, but its usually nothing. I figure I may give it to my son when he gets his license (he turns 12 next month).

Considering what you'd get for it in trade/sale, it seems crazy to get rid of a great car. When you feel its turning into a money pit, then trade it in. In the meantime enjoy not having car payments.

I've got 110K and still running. Like everybody else with the 1stgen, I get nervous about the tranny slipping since it's not been replaced (yet - fingers crossed). I'm trying to hold onto it as long as I can but once the Cayenne hybrid or the Lexus RDX equivalent comes out, I might pull the trigger.

2001 here as well. Car has been great to us. I get a little nervous about the tranny; however, I think we will keep it for a few more years.
WTF?
I have an '02 base model that turned 144K today.

My dad drove this as a company car since it had 20k on the clock in early 03 until he sold it to me with 128k on it, this June. He bought an '06 touring nav demo model.

So far:

*Pwr steering pump gave up at ~110K ( A Pilot PS pump is identical at like 50% of the cost of an Acura Unit)

*We got just under 70K out of the first set of Michelins, and replaced the last set right before i bought it. (I feel they still had 15k left but wasn't gonna fight him on this)

*Replaced the struts at all 4 corners at 128K as well ( KYB sells for just under 40% of the cost of an acura part) it rides lbetter than stock now.

* the rear climate control panel is dead (haven't replaced it) . Is anyone parting out an MDX yet by chance?

*Still on the original transmission (knock on wood) the oil jet mod was done at ~60K.

I'll field any questions on the durability with regards to the 120K and beyond that any of you have.

WTF?
Just turned 150 and then 151K this weekend on a Ski trip. Pushed her pretty hard through the mountain switchbacks, but held desired gears manually with the shifter and no complaints from the orig tranny.

Anyone have the timing belt and water pump replaced at 105K as per manual???

I have a 2002 MDX with 114K. The car looks like new, and I love driving it. I did have to have both sides of the front of the car taken apart and re-welded due to an Acura manufacturing defect, which is a whole other thread on this website. The whole front floor was filling with water when it rained (I live in Oregon).

However, this morning, I was on the highway, and when I stepped on the gas pedal, it acted like it was in neutral. Happened a couple times, but made it home. I just turned on the computer to check out this site and make an appointment with a transmission shop. I have never towed anything with it, and always taken very good care of it. Guess it is just another Acura issue!
WTF?
checking in at 160k, still no issues (knock on plood). Had the Tranny fluid replaced by Honda dealer for $60, Acura dealer next door wanted $100+. Put in the blitzsafe for my Ipod, and eliminated CD's from the 'X entirely! It is the best investment I've made in this vehicle to date!

Our 01 MDX now has 107k miles and is going strong. Orig. transmission with oil jet replaced by recall at about 75k. 105k service done with belt and waterpump two months ago. Tow a 4500 lb boat two or three times a year and take two or three thousand mile+ trips per year with no drama. This has been the best vehicle I have ever owned. We like it so much that we just got a 07 two weeks ago and our newly licensed 16 yo son will drive the 01.

All of those responses are taking us to the million dollar question. Should we buy an extended warranty? the problem is that the extended warranty covers up to 100K miles, while most of the MDX problems occur after the 100K.

My MDX has 27K on it and I'm still debating whether or not to buy the extended warranty!

Not sure on the Ex Warr. Its peace of mind IMO. I didn't have one and sorta wish I had, but if I had an 03+ I probably wouldn't feel that way.

WTF. WTF? has more miles than me? Wow.

I'm now up to 155K. Need to update my signature.

I've had no major problems with the X- 2001 with 145k.

However the little minor problems more than paid for the 100k extended warranty (purchased for $1150)

A couple of struts, ac controls, rear seat, motor mounts, etc

A
WTF?
Final Update-

Traded in the '02 'X with 179750 miles on an '04 MDX base with 42k.

I had no problems with it since the last post. I just felt it was the right time to get out of it; while I could still get a decent amount for it and before it started racking up large service bills that usually happen with a vehicle with this many miles.

I also needed to replace the michelins so I bought new tireds that came with a new car attached...

The 100k warranty was $1600+ : not worth it in my book.

I'll post up in a couple years when the new ride rolls over 100K.
