Just purchased my 06 MDX premium in red. Loving it so far. A quick question tho: Dealer suggested to do oil change every 3750 miles whereas manual suggests 7500 miles. Which one I should follow?
Thanks. |

If I remember correctly, the first oil change is at 7500 and 3750 there after.
Enjoy your new X! |

You bought the car, you might as well check out all of the features. In the glove box is a book called the owner's manual. It will describe the conditions of 3,750 oil changes, as well as 7,500 oil conditions.
:D I'm just playin' with you....hope you don't take it personally! Welcome to the forum. This is a great place for info.
I used to change my oil every 5k miles. It was a nice round, easy to remember number, and it split the "too frequent" 3,750 mile, and the "not frequent enough" 7,500 mile mark.
Some here do strict 3k mile changes. Some here only do 7,500 mile changes. |

I don't want to start the stealer/dealer thing, but oil changes every 3750 will ensure regular income for the dealer while every 7500 is the recommended for non-severe conditions. As eurohazard mentioned, every 5K sounds like a good round number. Changing more often won't hurt anything but your wallet. |

How long are you going to keep the vehicle? If you are going to keep it for a long time (well over 100K/5years), then more frequent oil changes may be beneficial. The longest I have had a vehicle was a '99 CRV with 140K/6 years - most are traded/sold are by 5 years/100K. I go by the manufacturers normal oil change recommendations and have had no problems. Actually the CRV had 7500 mile intervals but I actually only achieved 10K intervals due to scheduling difficulties. It ran fine with problems when it was sold. Honda engines have shown themselves to be incredibly durable and imho it's a waste of money to change the oil any sooner than the Honda's recommeded intervals if you are getting rid of it under 100K miles. |

We probably will sell it before 100K/5 yr as well. But my wife's commute is a short trip (less than 10 miles). I think 5k oil change interval will just do it. Thanks. |

| I like 5K because its easier to do the math than 3750. |

| ..if you want to know about oils (dino and synthetics), and other auto fluids, is "Bob is the oil guy" (BITOG.Com). They talk extensively about change intervals, oils weights, what's new in the market, and everything else you can, and cannot, think of. If you're interested in this subject you might give this site a look. |

I've been a strict 3K mile oil & filter changer for years. My '97 MB has 96K miles on it (just changed it over the weekend) and still runs like a top.
After buying the X almost 2 months ago now, I think I'm going to go 3,750. The reason is that it splits the 7500 and goes somewhat beyond my 3K historical pattern. The other reason for my going to 3,750 is that I'll rotate the tires every other oil change as well. This pus tire rotation at 7.5K and in sync with the other regular maintenance.
Doesn't the X have some sort of notification at 7.5K intervals? If so, I only have to do the hard math between them. How does the X let you know you need an oil change? Nav system? In the dash?
Yes, eurohazard, I could check my manual but why when there are people like you? |
