Sorry Acura, but you really blew it with this machine.. It really is a "faux" SUV not meant for anything more than cruising suburbia. Anyone who buys this vehicle thinking they will get a well made, reliable, functioning 4X4 is sadly deluded. Chock it up to Oprah crowd consumer group marketing - - or just really underestimating driving conditions this vehicle would be subject to, the MDX is the milk toast of SUV's. Forget the cool adds and redesigned '07, If you do any snow, mountain, or other normal SUV activities, stay away. We are in the market for a new SUV after 64K new miles since new on our '02 and on our 2nd rebuilt transmission. The car has lost the "tightness" that I'd expect with an Acura. Handling is now sloppy and off the line crispness is gone. Who knows what happens when they pull the engine and transmission out at the dealer and reinstall. Things probably don't line up as perfect as they did when brand new, etc. or worse? Most of the good techs. start their own business leaving the public with second tier talent at the dealer.
Forget the conga music, sappy smiling greeters, free coffee, organic cookies when you go in for service. How about passion for quality and a truly robust vehicle that Acura makes claim to in its adds - False advertising perhaps??
BTW.. what's up with the hideous metal crunching clunk when you put the car in gear from park on a hill?? Even the '06 loaner did this!!:o |

Before putting it into "Park" on a grade, you should engage the parking brake first.
Before driving off, you should shift into "D" before releasing the parking brake.
If you don't do that, all cars would make that clunk, not just the MDX. |

Don't take this the wrong way, but this is a retarded post. I think everyone and their mom knows this is a light duty SUV based on a minivan. It's not like Acura claims Rubicon dominance.
And as for performance in the snow..........I don't get it. My 2004 MDX with Michelins performed AWESOME in the snow. Remember this an AWD vehicle........not a "4x4" truck!
p.s. I now own an Nissan Armada. Because guess what?.............I needed a real truck/SUV to meet my towing needs. But you don't see me bashing the MDX or it's owners ("Oprah" crowd ring a bell?).
p.s.s NewMDXowner is correct. There is a proper sequence to parking a vehicle, and you have been doing it wrong. What? |

| Didn't the lack of a low-range in the transfer case clue you in that the MDX isn't intended for serious off-road use? |

er um... I don't use this car for off roading... just mountain driving... so shouldn't a vehicle advertised as an "SUV" with "AWD" be somewhat more durable than needing 2 transmissions after only 64K miles.. why would you kiss the *ss of any mfg. that under-designs their vehicles... people like you are what are making the USofA a watered down, bunch of PC type sympaticos...
AGAIN IF I WAS TOWING OR OFF ROADING TO GO BOW HUNTING I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT A BLOODY 4x4... ALL I WANTED WAS A GOOD HANDLING "RELIABLE", "DURABLE", SUV... I DON'T NEED A HEAVY DUTY TRUCK FOR EVERY DAY AND MOUNTAIN DRIVING..... THE ACURA IS BUILT FOR NEITHER!!!
NOW GET IN YOUR MDX AND HEAD OVER TO SAFEWAY.. NOURISH YOGURT IS ON SALE AND YOU CAN PARK YOUR PANSY ASS IN FRONT OF THE TV AND WATCH OPRAH YOU POLITCALLY CORRECT OVER SENSITIZED SOB. |

Our MDX performed fine in New England weather in a hilly region. Honda had a problem with their V6 trannies in just about all their models. They paid for most replacements (even multiple ones) while they fixed the problem. For the MDX, there are very few tranny problems from 2003 and up.
I guess you won't buy Toyota or Lexus then either because they had to replace so many engines during the period that they had oil sludge issues - even though that issue is fixed now too. Acura's tranny problem is much the same type of issue.
Good luck with whatever you buy, I'm sure it will not be any more reliable than your MDX has been. Looking at the CR predicted reliability data for mid-sized SUV's shows that you are severely limited in reliable choices if you eliminate Honda and Toyota: |

I dunno. My MDX gets me to tahoe and back every weekend from December - May. I've pulled out a lot more people than have pulled me out. I've gotten it stuck twice. Once at the top of the Tahoe Donner ski area when I tried to drive part of the ski hill and dipped my wheels off of where the cat had groomed (DOH!). The other in ice when I needed to put my snow tires on (had crappy summer tires) and I slid it up onto the snow bank. I've pulled Suburbans, Toyotas, Pickups, etc. out of the ditch many times.
Yes, I did have to replace my tranny and I'm worried it might happen again. There are other little things, but the car has never left me stranded and I've gotten a lot of great miles from it. Closing in on 140K now.
Maybe you drive as politely as you post and your car is paying you back?  :2: |

| I can see this going nowhere fast. nogoinsnow hates his MDX that is fine, but to state it over and over, while others see no problem and know it's limitations again no problem. All that will follow is head butting. |
