Hey guys!

I know there's been a ton of threads regarding tranny issues, etc. But I need to get your "latest" opinion re my case. I hope this is ok.
I got 72,000 miles in my 01 MDX. Felt the shuddering. Dealer said I need new tranny. I asked for goodwill. Today my service rep said Acura will cover parts but I have to pay for labor. I was quoted about $900 for labor. Is this the going rate for labor to replace tranny?

Is this fair? I bought the MDX used and it is NOT dealer maintained 100% of the time.

I asked if I could pursue this with the regional head but was told I could start with Acura Care Cust service. When I talked to the service rep, she said they could not overturn a decision. I asked if I could contact regional head, they said no. They could open up a case but I'm not sure where that will go.

Any advise? Thoughts? Fair? Not fair?

Thank you!

Thanks! I read that link already and I guess the difference is he only has 55K miles while I have about 72K miles. Hmm..not sure if it makes a difference.

I think it is worth $ 900 in labor if they will give you a 3 year warranty on the unit.

I think you are right. I guess it is like buying the warranty for it.
Thanks!

I agree, but be sure to validate and get the warranty documented. I've heard lots of verbal committments, but getting it in writting is important.

Please also post back when you have it verified in writting. Others will want to know as well.

I look at it this way- an extended warranty would have cost you $1,500 to $2,000. If you can get away with a replaced tranny for less than that, you're making out.

Not a bad deal at all, Acura has to have a warranty end sometime, although with this many complaints I am surprised they didn't extend it. That said for the shuddering issue you have it is usually only felt in D5 not D4 or D3 until it gets real bad. Also from here on I would change the fluid every 4th oil change

Hi Tech99:

I change the transmission oil every 6K miles (2 oil changes). I know it's an overkill, but I'm very nervous about my 2001 model. It's my wife's car, and I don't want to get in trouble with her :)

By the way, are you a tech for Acura or Honda?
tech99
For Acura In Canada, every 2 oil changes is not really overkill actually especially given how dirty the fluid gets, I change in my wife's van that often too. Has almost 120 000 miles now, original tranny

72k and 5-6 year old MDX? I'm thinking $900 for a replacement transmission doesn't sound too bad, but I would get them to give me the 3year 36k warranty in writing. I just bought an 03 that the prior owner paid Acura $500 to replace when it had about 99k, and Acura said it had a 3/36 warranty. That transmission only lasted until 108k before replacement (no charge). I have since been told the warranty was not transferable, so I am now working to resolve that issue. Whatever you do, get it in writing. Good luck. Tom

To those who got their remanufactured tranny replaced, how long did it take the dealer to get it done?

I dropped off our 01 MDX last night and was told it could be ready late today. Can they really do it that fast? One day?

Thank you!

I can usually do them in 6-7 hours, PCM included
