I am new to Acura and just got my first new mdx few weeks ago

i am wondering about being able to play mp3 cd's

i have a 2006 and i do not think that the audio system supports mp3 cd's

I really would rather have something changed so that i can play mp3 cd's rather than adding on something to plug up a ipod or a mp3 player. Any suggestions ?

You could swap out the head unit. Or add a changer that is mp3 compatible but also compatible with the head unit.

What trim level do you have (base/touring/nav/res)?

I believe the Alpine CHA-S634 may fit the need here.

I have one in my 93 Legend that I will eventually move over to my 02 X.

Depending on the trim level, you may need to get a "conversion" cable.

If you are only going to go as far as changing the HU why? Just get and add an iPod to the stock system. It's much more versatile and there are no disks to hassle with.

lol - I agree...in my X, I have a cassette adapter that I plug right into my iPod.

Not the ultimate in sound fidelity and it looks "ghetto," but it only cost me $15. The best $15 upgrade I have done :) and it BEATS the crap out of any FM transmitter (here in LA, FM transmitters are all but useless).

BTW - If you plan on using the cassette adapter, review the Griffin "SmartDeck." It has received mixed reviews, but the feature set is quite nice, IF it works with your car cassette player.

It does not have to be an iPod. Any mp3 player will work.

I have the touring model

I would like just like to add the ability to add mp3 cd's

really dont like the hassle of keeping up with a mp3 player. ( my ipod was stolen when taken to park place lexus dealer by the way they SUCK!)

if this can be done with minimal changes to the car that would be ideal.

A Blitzsafe adapter plugged into the rear of your head unit and a $2 miniplug-to-stereo cable will do the trick and sound better than a cassette adapter IMHO.
