For the FWIW Department: I have a 2005 MDX Touring with NAV and the Bose system/speakers. I've never been that happy with the sound overall, and anything with significant bass was problematic.

I found myself in Charlottesville, VA for a few days and visited the Crutchfield store there to inquire about replacement speakers. They said they'd not done research on the MDX (no Acura dealers there for them to work with) so I loaned them mine for half a day.

When I went back, they recommended several speaker models, including Infinity Kappa 62.7i speakers for both front and back. They recommended that I keep the existing subwoofer but with Dynamat added to the enclosure and a "strengthener" added to the subwoofer mount. They also recommended not bothering the existing tweeters.

I had them install the Kappas and the Dynamat. I am very happy with the sound now.

I have been running the Infinity's for several years now. I forgot how much of an improvement they were until I pulled them out a few weeks ago preparing to trade my 03 in on an 07. The only thing I didn't like is due to the different resistance of the speakers the sub was very "boomy" and I had to turn the base way down. I'm sure there is some way to adjust it, but I just never took the time.

you mean leave them connected ?? or just leave them disconnected and not physcially remove them from the mount ?

iirc, the Kappa 62.7 is a 2-way coaxial driver i.e. it already has a tweeter, and a adjustable (direction) one at that. it could only make sense to disconnect the stock tweeter.

The Dynamat was a wise idea. I'd even go further and damp the doors. That is the number one audio upgrade you can do to this car!

Sorry, mdxforever, your reply to my November post slipped past me! I didn't meant to ignore you.

I have no idea what they did about the existing tweeters -- all I remember is they said they saw no reason to spend the money to replace them, but whether they (a) did nothing at all with the stock tweeters, or (b) disconnected them in favor of the Infinities, I just don't know.
