I guess we are one of the 'lucky' ones with our 2002 MDX that was bought new from a dealer.
We had 4th gear shift problems a year ago near 100K and was fixed with a new solenoid no thanks to the dealer who wanted to put in a transmission for $4500. Then had 2nd or 3rd gear problems and that was fixed with another solenoid. Now, first gear delays shifting up to 2nd gear when entering a freeway. Current mileage is about 125K.
Sounds like we need a new transmission from discussions with the dealer and mechanics. Not happy about that but less happy from the post about the life expectancy of another transmission.
All I know is we have had five Toyotas of various models over the years with mileage well beyond that on the MDX without any problems.
These are not the type of problems I expect from Honda and the dealer was , ...., no dealer I will deal with again.
I gather from reading the post on the board we are dead given the mileage we have. If not, please respond since I know the wife would like to keep the car for at least another year or two.
Otherwise too bad for us and for future Honda purchases since it was a nice car.

It can't hurt to demand a new one from Acura Coporate (nicely, of course) and see what they say. They'll likely provide at least partial reimbursement. There is no discernable life pattern for replacements - it could last 1K miles or it could last the 100K miles you got out of your current tranny. Toyota's are not without their problems - we had to lemon a 2004 Sienna. They also had that widespread engine sludge issue that affected several Toyota/Lexus models a while back - similiar to Acura/Hondas tranny issue. |

Thanks for the response.
We will try. Who knows, maybe the dealer will have a partial change of heart tough I doubt it.

Deal with Acura Corporate, not just the dealer. |

| Perhaps this forum should compile a database of transmission problems (including replacement problems) with model year, date of purchase, vin # (perhaps kept confidential), and mileage. This would provide anyone with a transmission problem a set of facts to use to negotiate. |
