I also have a 2002 MDX I bought used 3 1/2 years ago with 35k miles on it. First thing I did was have the dealer change the tranny fluid and since then I have brought it to the Acura dealer and gotten it serviced per the Acura book. I have had a few various problems, and the dealer in Austin has always gone out of their way to help me out. But a $4,500 transmission is not what I expected on an Acura with 96k miles on it. The dealer said that Acura USA will help pay 75% of the costs on changing the tranny and I will get 36 month 36k mile warranty on it.
My concer is that there seems to be an awful lot of wheeling and dealing going on with these transmissions. I am surprised that Acura has not done a recall on this. I wish I have a 100k mile warranty on this like a Hyundai!
My Mercury van has 155k miles on it and has never had any tranny problems. Shocking Acura is not better than this. Fool me once, it will not happen again. |

The trannys are junk on earlier MDXs. I had to replace mine at 70k. The Dealer/Acura didn't want to help at all. After kicking and screaming they agreed to pay half ($1600, tranny at cost). Not thrilled about it but I'm not sure given the same situation with Ford Chevy I would have gotten anything.
Will I ever buy another Acura? No!! Had they made good on the peice of crap they used as a transmission for my MDX they would have had a customer for life. |
