Just wanted to get some of your guy's opinions on which would be better to buy, the 360 or PS3. What do you think?? Thanks!
SilveradoMDX
Market share is still PS3 dominant, however Xbox is raising its bar up to PS3. Though this Friday is its official release for PS3, it does carry the latest technology game console so far up to date. Microsoft does have the tendency bouncing back. From my stand point, its all about the games that you would like to play and on which console platform carries it. As of this year, I would select PS3.

Bought the Xbox 360 over the summer and am amazed by the graphics.

Can't imagine the ps3 will blow the 360 out of the water.

I agree, it all comes down to games. For the 360 you've got to try Gears of War.

The other advantages of the PS3 are: more games available in PS format; the motion-sensing controller (that would be interesting to see how this is implemented); and the availability of Blu-Ray (I think XBox is coming out with an accessory for this, IIRC).

I've been holding off on XBox, so this year may be time for a PS3, even though I will probably just use EyeToy for the kids and maybe the gun-type games for myself due to lack of play time.

That is frickin' crazy. The things people would do to play video games...
ROTORRAY
...that the new PS3 won't play the PS2 games, not all of them, anyway. Looks like if you're interested in this -3 system you have to start over, and that is where they make their $$$$$$$$$. There was an interesting report on this morning's news showing lines of folks in San Francisco waiting for reliease of the -3 tonight at midnight. Some folks will get them and say they will sell them on E-Bay for $4,000. The crazy ones are the ones who will purchase it at that amount! Whattaworld.

My friend bought the ps2 when it first came out for $800. There are lots of dumb people out there.

Good comparison, side by side. Xbox 360 graphics appears to be much darker then PS3. This comparison are done by chips programming how it controls the graphical interface. For the PS3 and Xbox360, both are awesome console. Games decision should be your best bet deciding which console is best suited for you.

Forget those 2 get the Wii...the most fun i've had with a console in awhile. Brought it over to Thanksgiving and the Wii sold itself to 4 family members. People who never played video games were fighting to play next. Great system if you have people over all the time. That said, i've got a 360 and the only thing I really play is Gears of War :D

Yeah, I'm sold on the Wii too. Great especially for groups, and family time.

The others are better for the blood and guts games, but the Wii is more fun over all AFAIK.

Here are screenshot comparisons of the PS3 and 360 screens for the same games. It make take a few to load but you'll mouse over the the images to swap between the two. There are multiple game shots compared. Wii shots are not included.

Hmm... is that a one plus two to get three....?

Get the xbox 360!!! I've had it more two moths and it rocks - graphics, games, HD-DVD and one of the best features is the XBOX live. Sony cant touch this. You can download games, movies, tv shows, chat with friends, look at pics from a PC, etc. Way cool!!!

Although I have showed a picture of my PS3.I do own an XBOX 360..And Jswift is right.I don't think PS3 or Wii can compete against XBOX live. You can also download demo games..

The 3 main video game console usually have the same game any way beside their system's game.

Any Mario games will be on the Wii.
Grand Turismo,Tekken will be on PS3.
Gears of War ,Halo 3 will be XBOX 360..

If you are a fan of a certain game .Then I suggest you can that console that plays the game you want.
SilveradoMDX
I think online games on PS3 is free. Whereas, XBox Live comes with a price. Though XBox Live does have the market, the new PS3 Online will be a challenge to XBox Live market.
cycler15
XBOX Live is very cool. I have Gears of War for the xbox 360 and it's an awesome game. I can play the game single player, and when my friend boots up his xbox 360, I get a message that he is online. I can then invite him to my game and voila! Now we are playing Gears of War co-op exactly where I was without having to reboot the game or even go into the game menu. Pretty cool.

How is the HD-DVD add on? I've been thinking about getting it. How is the boot up speed to play a movie?

Gran Turismo HD will utilize "microtransactions" to purchase additional cars, tracks and add-ons. The base game will ship with 30 cars and only 2 tracks. If you were to buy all of the items available it could cost between $400 and $900!

Sony/Polyphony could of course, reverse this plan before launch.

Very happy with my 360. Just finished Gears of War - unbelievable game!

Plus the cost of the PS3 is prohibitive.
highmath
Go for the XBox 360. Why? Because its easier to find than a PS3. Graphics wise... hand in hand. Blu-Ray?...Over rated.

I got my 360 modded to play backup discs. It's a software mod, no soldering required.

I actually don't have a nextgen console yet. I recently built a home theater in the basement using an LCD projector with an HTPC and have been watching movies and playing some PS2 but the coffers are a little too bare to warrant another console purchase. The PS2 480P graphics (some games) are very noticably blocky when blown up on the wall so a hi-def player will be in my future at some point. My choice would be the 360 but we'll be getting a Wii before that and they're still hard to find. The Wii won't work with the projector so it'll be upstairs in my family room.

For the record, my 7 yr old daughter and I are playing Guitar Hero 1 & 2. She can finish "I Love Rock and Roll" on easy mode at 86% accuracy so I'm trying to get her into other songs. I have an original Xbox and chip sitting on my desk in pieces waiting for the upgrade and 300GB drive addition. Too many projects and not enough time to play. I really want to try some multiplayer Halo and Crimson Skies on Kai's Xlink.

I'm intrigued!

Did you need a specific drive to do it (Samsung or Hitachi)? Does the Software mod protect you from future MS patches? Will it only play games burned onto DL DVD's even if they are under 4.7GB in size?

The software mod works for either the Samsung or Hitachi drive. I think there may be a new type of drive, and that may require soldering. I actually bought a brand new 360 2 weeks ago that had the new type of drive and went directly to the guy who did the modding. He ended up giving me an already modded xbox since he said the new drive required soldering.

Yes, I can play online with the mod. It doesn't protect against future MS patches, it's only a drive software mod to enable to the drive to read backup discs.

I believe it required DL DVD's.

I just got it modded 2 weeks ago and haven't had much time to play anything. Just Gears of War online co-op with my buddy.

I finally pulled the trigger on a 360 last week and I love it!! Looks great on my 73" Mitsu and sounds great on the surround sound, and I have to say that Elder Scrolls IV is the best role playing game I have EVER played!! Will I ever grow up?? Probably not.....

Trust me you are not the first one to tell me that. They do look like allot of fun and I do plan on getting one when they become more readily available, seems like it would be great for families and people who are not big time into video games(unlike the huge nerd that I am).

There are certainly somewhat smaller TV's (50-60 inches) that have a somewhat clearer picture, but what can I say, like the wife says SIZE MATTERS!! :D :D :D

I watched a kid play some driving game on PS3 at Target for about 10 minutes. Very nice graphics. Even Mrs. Nightguy was impressed. I don't think I'll be getting one this year. I'm just happy someone I know just got a PS2 for Christmas so I'll be able to play Madden with a non-gameshark. :)

I have my 360 on an 84" screen and love it, looking forward to the arrival of my 92". Size really does matter, not nearly as much fun on the 42" plasma....:D

how much does an 84 to 92" plasma cost?

Though it doesn't look very sharp due to low-res textures and no 720P support, I run my PS2 on a 112" screen. HD TV and movies look stunning. A 360 or PS3 would look really good but convincing my wife of that is another matter. :4:

I'm assembling the frame and backlighting this week and will post pictures.

Let me tell you guys my experience since I was able to play PS3 and xbox 360 ..My neighbor recently purchased a PS3 and He is using a hdtv that is capable of 1080p.he has Tony Hawk 8 and Need for speed Carbon for PS3. And I have downloaded a demo boths games in the 360.I am using the 360 on a tv that is capable of 1080i max. After playing both games on both system, I realized that there is not difference on both system in graphics and the game play is the same.If anything I found 360 graphics a little bit better..It's more crispier IMO.

Here's a comparison on GameStop. You'll see what I mean..
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6162742/index.html

PS3 has a built in blu-ray player and Xbox 360 has an add-on HD DVD Player for $200 dollars.Until, I find out who wins the battle between Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD.. I will hold off on purchasing this new technology.I have spent a ton of money on my dvd collection and i am not willing to replace them especially if the Blu-Ray or HD DVD average cost is $30.00 to $40.00 dollars.Look what happen to the LASERDISC player, I feel one of them (Blu -Ray and HD DVD)will fail just like the LASERDISC..

Interesting video up on CNET currently that talks about the porn industry's influence on the DVD formats. Sounds like HD-DVD is easier and cheaper for them to make movies with....so it will likely cause HD-DVD to have a big advantage over Blu-Ray.

I never really thought about that, but porn really does drive a lot of $$$ in many areas. The industry is huge!!!

At Best Buy too. I talked to a sales guy there yesterday and he said the PS3's and XBOX's are sitting on the shelves since everybody wants a Wii. Those are still hard to get.

Finally got my original Xbox modded and 300GB drive installed. I played Crimson Skies against a friend Monday night and we'll be playing Halo 2 tonight. Yeah, it's soooo 2001 but it looks awesome on the screen and is totally immersive.
