I have a 2005 MDXwith about 15,000 miles. It's the 2nd MDX I have owned. The thud noise started about 1000 miles ago coming from the left rear. I never had it with my 2002 MDX. I've been in to see the dealer twice and they say it is the break pad, which they said was changed the last time I was in about 3 weeks ago. I still hear the thud sound every day and now a high pitched screeching sound some times. Does anyone have any ideas about what I should do?

I see this is your first post. :welcome:! Can you be more specific for our members to help you? Is it when you are just driving along? Is it only when you brake? Accelerate?

the thud noise happens usually after I back out of my garage - stop - change gears into drive and then slowly accelerate. about 1 second after doing that I hear a loud thud. Now I also sometimes get a screedhing noise that last about 3 to 4 seconds.

Hello...this is also my very first post. We just bought a certified pre-owned '02 MDX with about 47,000 miles on it. We (my wife and I) are experiencing the same problem and it seems to happen when shifting to reverse from park. We don't hear a screeching noise though, just the thud. Since the break pads are new and all, I'm thinking that the noise is caused by the brakes. I will bring it in and have it checked out. Any insights on this problem is greatly appreciated. By the way, this is our first MDX and we love it! Before we owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The change is like night and day.:D

pc2mdx- It sounds like you got a bad tranny coming on and I would get it back to the dealer for a re-eval. I have heard of just a few members on here have problems with their 05 tranny. I'm assuming that you are still under warranty so press on the service dept to correct the problem.

mdx808- :welcome: Do you park on a incline/decline? This can cause that "thud" sound of the +/- stress on the tranny based on the grade of the incline/decline.

Thanks for the welcome and reply Highmath. The answer to your question is no. We park our MDX on a flat paved lot. So do you think that the tranny is the source of that sound? Kinda wish it won't be that, but I will bring it in for a check up.

Yeah, it sounds like you may have some issues with your tranny. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there have been a lot of problems with 02 model's tranny. Good news for you may be able to complish something at the dealer based on your mileage and that it is Acura CPO. Use that dealer warranty to your advantage!
