Hi,
I am new to this forum. I registered because I am looking at a MDX purchase & thought I ought to ask the experts. The vehicle in question is a 2004 MDX Touring with NAV. Silver/Ebony. 24.4K miles. This is a Acura certified vehicle & a lease return. The dealer quoted me $31,995 with Acura financing of 4.9% for 60 months. To all the experts here, is this a good deal?

Is there any way to estimate what the dealer might have paid for this vehicle? I would like to counter with a more reasonable offer considering I can find used 2006 similarly equipped for around $35K with ~10K miles & there are a lot of slightly higher miles '04s out there for 2-3K less. I am in the PNW around Portland.

Thanks in advance,
JeffK
I would suggest you go to www.Kbb.com.

They will give you trade in value, which is usually pretty close to wholesale.

I can almost guarantee you that the dealer did not pay more than this amount.

Also, most dealers will only pay an amount equal to "good" condition, rarely to never excellent. This is then the amount the dealer paid for the car.

Then figure his overhead, time, re-certifying the car. This is usually 10%. Add that 10% to the "good" condition trade in value and that should be the price you sould pay.

I do not know your financial situation, but for $4 to $5,000 more than what the dealer is asking, ($31,999) you should be able to get a brand new 2006 - with zero mileage, brand new tires, brakes, etc. and a full 4 years 50,000 mile warranty. That IMHO, is a better way to go.

Thanks for the info Jeff. The same dealer has a 2006 with 1100 miles, it is a demo. They act like it is new but in my view it is used & should be priced appropriatly. I plan to visit the dealer again this weekend. Is the 2006 that much better than the 2004? I would take the 2006 if they could come down to the $34-35K range but I won't know until I talk to them again.

BTW, what do you know about the certification program? Seems like a good deal on a used vehicle...
