A bit unexpected, although not unplanned, I have parted with the 2001 MDX and welcomed a Q7 3.6 premium nicely loaded.
A very good experience at an Audi dealer in NJ. Got a great trade-in offer and a very reasonable price on the new car. Great residual value for the lease + Audi special program = I am a very satisfied customer.
I will not leave this forum "forever" - hard to forget such a great bunch of people and the wealth of information and fun.
I will be posting my reviews in "other autos".
And, once I calm down a bit I will tell you all of my spooktacular experience at my local Acura dealer when I went to look at the 07 MDX and how the sales manager made sure I would not stay loyal to the brand he represented... But not yet... otherwise this post will be sensored and I will be banned from this site. :3: |

Wow, another Old-Timer saying goodbye :( Good luck with the Q7. |

congrats! i've heard some pretty nice reviews on the Q7. i like the Audi version best when comparing to VW and Porsche editions.
best of luck |

| The Q7 is an interesting vehicle. Definitely better looking than the VW and Porsche, but the swoopy styling means that they've managed to combine a full-size exterior with a midsize interior. Definitely lots of character and fun-to-drive, though I've only driven the V8. |

| how are the reliability issues? since audi isn't really strong in the reliability area as with most german makers, would be nice to know thanks! |

Thank you all for kind words.
Reliability is the major factor in me going with a 2.5 year lease with all maintenance and warranty work obviously included. I hope it will be at least as good as my MDX ;) - as many of my posts here can attest, the X started "falling apart" on the way home from the dealership. :(
There are some very nice and some very weird things to say about the Q after 2 days and 200 miles of ownership.
I will post my observations soon in the Other Automobiles section.
If any of you have specific questions and want the first-hand research/opinion - feel free to PM/email me. |

Hey, vip9! Congratulations! Good choice. Q7 is my next choice, if in 2 years MDX does not come with standard auto-dimming rear view mirror under 40k.
Being a fellow Brooklynite, I don't need to guess that you went to Plaza Acura. It's amazing, that out of all other Plaza shops: Honda, Hyundai, Toyota, this one is has the lowest qualify of service. What a joke for a dealership! No wonder, the show room is almost always empty (with every oil change, I step by to kill time while waiting, not a single friendly face).
Post some pics!!! Also curious how Q7 handles in snow. |

| Congrats on the new Q7! I saw it up close for the first time a week or so ago. It was parked in one of the Nashville area mall and I was impressed. Acura sure got some competition this year and I'm starting to seek out my ride in 2 years or so. |

I narrowed it down to the MDX and the Q. Being a previous Audi owner (98 A6) I have some brand loyalty. Love both vehicles-there has always been a Honda/Acura in my garage as well. But the ultimate selling point for me was the residual value that Acura's hold. I sold both an 03 MDX and the A6 and was amazed at the resale value of the X compared to the A6 (almost all things being equal- purchase price, years owned and miles) I know that Audi has come a long way since my purchase but if you talk to most dealers they will tell you the same.
A billet silver 07 sport MDX now resides in my garage.
Enjoy your Audi! |

Some dealers are just so confident in their product that they sometimes forget they still have customers.
In Aspen (er, Glenwood Springs), the Audi/VW dealer is a nightmare, but you see the cars all over the place. Never mind more than a few also have signs on their doors stating "friends don't let friends buy at Elk Mtn Motors."
The Q7 is growing. But because of the dealer, the car never entered my hunt that ended with the RRS and MDX. Of which, the latter can only be found in Denver. |

oh, for what it's worth, another in my office has an 03 (or 04) V8 Audi All Road that's totally loaded. His commute isn't even a mile, but he takes the thing on huge cross country trips over and over and has never had single problem.
I put Audi in with Range Rover (the new sport at least). You either have some problems or none at all.
With all the Honda's I have owned, I'm expecting my MDX to be just as satisfying. |

My 2004 Audi A8 is finally going off lease on 12/3.
I have had as many (many, many) problems with it as my prior A6.
I will not miss it especially the mind boggling MMI (Audi answer to the BMW idrive!).
However I can say that the service has been excellent but often!
Best of Luck with your new Q7!

Wow, such attention! Even ghost himself is glad to get r... I mean showed up to wish me luck :)
Fat chance, I will NEVER leave this forum!
Hey, sarge, nice to hear from you! Tried to PM you but your mailbox is full!
Thanks again for all the best wishes. Seems like I will need them! :(
The GERMAN MONSTER strikes!!!! The damn car is barely a week old and... The electronic lock in the glove box mulfunctioned. The manual's emergency opening procedure did not work. Took their mechanic 2+ hours to open the box - it was kind of important to have it open... there was my E-Z pass in there. Thank god the car was so new that nothing else, not even the manual was there.
Now the new glove box door is coming from Germany.
NICE GOING!
Anyway, no THUD so far and they told me my Q was the 1st one they got to service. Oh well....
:D
Anybody wants to assume a really cheap lease on Q7? :)
Neah, I'll give it a chance... Stay tuned  |

Back when I worked at Jaguar, I had a meeting with the sales manager who wanted to give the customers a free gift-type care package when they took delivery of their new car.
Imagine his surprise when I suggested a first aid kit and warning triangles :D |

Wouldn't do me much good if I had them in the glove box now would it? :D
Oh, btw, as promised, I posted my Acura dealership horror story.
See it here.

You did two dangerous things:
Bought German
Bought German FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION
But all is not lost - you leased and you can now start counting the days until your lease is over!
Hope your Q7 has less problems than my A8L which has been a nightmare!

| bad news |
| I went from a 1990 Integra to a 1996 Audi A4 to a 2004 MDX. The Audi had things go wrong that simply should not have, but damn I loved that car. I considered an Allroad when I bought my MDX but the cost of purchase and maintenance cost swayed me to Acura again. I can't say there aren't days (in fact many) that I wish I'd gotten the Allroad. For all the money my wife has wasted away the last 2 years, I could have afforded the Audi. Maybe in my next life....... |

I am still waiting to hear from an Audi owner who not only liked to drive their car but more importantly one who did not have many, many problems.
There must be a valid reason why Consumer Reports consistently rates both Volkswagen and Audi below average on reliability.
