| I just filled up my MDX for the 2nd time. On leaving the gas station, I reset Trip A miles without resetting anything on the trip computer. Now, in spite of a gas gauge showing full, and mpg around 22, the "range" is showing as about 215 miles. Do I have a problem? |

First of all I would like to welcome you to the forum. I noticed your new here. Second, I'm not sure how to answer your question. You only reset trip A, not trip B or your screen? You can either reset the screen or have it automatically reset itself. When I refill I usually reset all three.
Also I keep track of my own gas mileage on paper, and the history on the screen and my own calculations differ. On our little weekend trip I don't know what happened, but it said that I got 438 miles and 40.5 miles per gallon. We did reset the computer on the screen. I wish our MDX got 40.5 miles per gallon.
I know I probably didn't answer your question right, but I tried.

| I do not think you have a problem. My range always shows about that much and I guessed Acura does the initial calculation at full tank at about 12 mpg. |

Welcom Mistletoe! I assume the trip computer and the navi computer work the same way. Unless you manually reset the "trip" or have your system set to "automatically reset" (which means if you open the gas tank door and put ANY gas in, it resets and starts calculating you mpg again from scratch. If you never reset this, then you may have a low mpg (say 13). It would take a lot of "good mpg" to raise it (it's a weighted average).
Hope that makes since. |

| ... if you park on an incline or in any other way put the MDX in a fairly steep tilt it can slosh the gas to an extent that it thinks you refilled the tank and thus reset the trip computer. We parked on a slope once and it reset itself giving us a very quirky reading on a couple of pseudo-tanks of gas.:) |

| I never knew that. I figured it must be based on when you open the fuel door. I didn't realize the level of the fuel (and there for an incline) could do that. |

Hi msu,
How steep is the incline? I have driven the MDX gently up/down an incline of 30 degree for about 200~300 feet but have not experienced the reset.
Quite a weird feature, especially in an off-road capable vehicle   |

| ... but it was also perhaps related to the way it was parked. I pulled off edge of a road with a steep embankment on both sides (drainage ditches). I pulled off facing traffic, with the right (passenger) side tires still on pavement and the the left (drivers) side in the ditch. Thus the fuel door was lower than the opposite side. And the tank was about 3/4 full which also could have been a factor - not as far for the gas to go. But undoubtedly the reset involves a sensor in the tank that triggers when fuel hits it. |

If there is a "sensor in the tank that triggers when the fuel hits", then we should be having the trip computer reset quite a lot since the sensor will be triggered by the stop and go traffic (and the resulting/corresponding "slump" in the gas tank by the sloshing). Maybe it needs some period of time to ensure that it is not the sloshing.
Does anybody open the gas tank door (not gas cap) and see the trip computer reset (assuming the auto reset is selected)? or gas tank door and cap opened? Just curious to know.
