OK, I'm picking up my Premium MDX with Nav tomorrow, I have extra $500 to spare, what accessory to buy that has the best impact on the looks and utility of my MDX?
Thanks.
tdnone
Rear mud guards, wheel locks, cargo tray and cargo cover. Next is the side steps or running boards. Buy it from Tim at www.hondacuraworld.com and install yourself.

Good lucks and happy MDXing :):):)

Manik Polished Stainless Steel Side Steps. People will definatley see those! Maybe window tinting (getting the front windows to match the rear--if legal in your state), wood steering wheel/wood shift knob, wood dash.... all great ideas!

Way too many choices...just click on one of my links in my sig line and pick an accessory! :)

Of all the accessories on RoadRunner (other than the marvelous NAV) the one that hands down has added the most in terms of usefulness is the car phone. In my case I chose the option of a permanently installed 3 watt analog true car phone as opposed to an adapter for a standard low power hand-held type of cellular phone. The larger antenna and 10x greater wattage gives awesome range. So far, the ONLY place I have been that I was out of phone range for more than a few seconds was in the center of the Navajo nation miles from a major highway or town.
From a safety point of view this kind of availability is invaluable because the more remote your location the more you need to be able to call for help.
Mine cost $100 installed.
Pictures and details can be found at MDX Accessory Notes Page
where you can also get my $ 0.02 worth about other goodies.

By it from Tim as tdnone said. For $500 bucks get: Rear mud guards ($45 self install), cargo cover ($125 self install); www.sportwing.com moldings ($112, pro-install for $40), www.mats.com 3 rows of color keyed mud mats ($120). Front window tinting ($70-$100)

Hey! No one mentioned the Razos and PIAAs. In my book, they are the coolest add-on. They are available from Ron at Motorsport (searchable on this site) at $60-$80/pair. DMor's sheep vests are an attention getter, too. I love 'em.

Cardingtr,

Looks like you will need to increase your discretionary budget :D

Would recommend to categorize and prioritize between utility and appearance. Then the decision perhaps will be a little easier.

Good lucks :):):)

tdnone,

thats the problem. MDX has a lot of utility on it already and appearance is subjective. I think to make it easy I'll get the accessories that covers both?
*mudguard
*side step-if it really prevents dings then I'll figure it will qualify
*roof rack-nope
*side moulding- same as side steps
*cargo tray
*radar detector-don't get us started here.(got one)
*"weathertech" type floor mats

I think $500 bucks is not enough here especially if I decide on chrome side step.

on silver MDX which is better to match a tinted window and its chrome door handles, chrome or black side step? I think with chrome side step its too shiny with silver MDX? Opinion please.

Thanks.

My opinion:
*side step is more for help in getting into/out of the MDX. Limited value as for dent/ding prevention.
*no roof rack, use hitch mounted accessories.
* would go with chrome side step instead of black one.
* depending upon where you live, like East coast and midwest or Southeast, you may need it. In CA, I do not need it since it does not snow and little rain. The OEM mat is OK. When worn, I will replace it.
Cheers, :)

The Maniks (sidesteps) are cool...but...they won't prevent door dings, unless you happen to park next to a MiniCooper.

For interior preservation...Mats (I picked up some for $20 at Costco and tossed them over my carpeted ones. They're seasonal throw-aways. They look fine. Cargo mat...spring for the ACURA brand because it has cut-outs for the cargo tie-downs....Cargo Cover to hide your stuff. SunShade for windshield.

Exterior preservation...mud flaps, wheel locks, fender flares. The fender flares WILL protect your wheel wells from door dings (plastic). Molding, if you can find something you like. I'm currently waiting to see what they do for '02, if anything.

Beyond that...the rest are FRILL necessities.

I'll add fender flares as my future buy then. It is a good idea. Looks like the list on my palmpilot is getting longer.

How about the solarvent? I don't really know the name but you might get the idea. It's inserted on the glass window then closed. The solarvent allows circulation using a fan(solar) and supposed to keep inside temp lower. If the fan is powerful enough to move air, we can preserve our leather and interior color.

I saw one in Manchester Honda catalog.

cardingtr,
Here's what I have which will require you to quadruple your budget!

Read Mud Guards
Wheel Locks
Fender Flares
Trailer Hitch
Lower Trim Piece
Cargo Tray
Cargo Cover
Burl Wood Shift Knob

The flares, lower trim, and hitch are by far the most expensive with the shift knob and all weather mats being the cheapest. IMHO, anything beyond this is guilding the lily. The Manic Side Steps are great looking but are not needed to get in and out of the vehicle which is why I took a pass on them which is simply a matter of personal preference.

Hi Remery,

Can you enlighten me about the Lower Trim. I have read about it on Acura web site, rarely read about it in this forum and saw it at the dealer on someone else MDX. I am not sure (personally) what is its use (no pun intended). Just to see what I am missing.

Thanks :)

... $350 gets you a full size spare, which is lots of utility, function, peace-of-mind etc. What ever you decide, have fun and enjoy:cool:
