Bluetooth on 2007 MDX with Moto Q - Click HERE for Original Thread

The Moto Q was working 100 % with the handsfree link even transfering contacts which they didn't even know you could do.

Unfortunately, after doing the sofware upgrade on the phone it suddenly gets completely turned off when the bluetooth tries to connect or disconnect randomly. When you call out from the car it dials them drops out and you must grab the phone.

I am using Telus as a provider in Canada, so I don't know if its just that upgrade or any others.

The bad thing is that Handsfreelink have no communications with Motorola and Motorola don't seem to care.

If anyone has done the upgrade and had more success or the same, I would like to hear.

Thanks

My Telus Q has been randomly turning off several times a day for almost a month (shortly after the Q firmware was updated). After spending a lot of time trying to characterize the problem I have determined that there is a software bug with the Telus Business Inbox client application that resides on the Motorola Q. When this application is installed, the Q will automatically turn off after it goes in and out of Bluetooth coverage a total of 3 times. At first I suspected that a 3rd party application or my customized settings were responsible for the problem but after doing a lot of testing I was able to distill the variables to the Telus application in combination with the Q.

The following steps reveal the problem 100% of the time:
1. Turn on the Q and do a MASTER RESET of the device to get it to a virgin factory state. After the Master Reset the Q will automatically reboot (turns off and then back on). After the reboot is complete do NOT change any settings, defaults, or load any type of data (i.e. address book, calendar, etc) or programs into the device.
2. Install the Telus Business Inbox client application (Telus Business Inbox for SMARTPHONE). During installation properly enter the requested phone number and password information in order to complete the activation of the client Business Inbox application.
3. After the Telus Business Inbox application is activated, use the Bluetooth manger to turn on the Bluetooth in the Q.
4. Pair the Q to a Hands Free Device (Bluetooth Hands Free in my 2005 Acura MDX). Turn off the vehicle (i.e. Hands Free Device OFF) after pairing is successful. Wait a minimum of 15 seconds.
5. Turn on my vehicle for a minimum of 15 seconds, than turn off the vehicle for a minimum of 15 seconds. After a total of 3 ON to OFF cycles the Q will automatically turn it’s power off without notice.

This is not an obscure bug as the operational impact is that the phone turns off anytime you go in and out of Bluetooth coverage 3 times (without any calls or Q keyboard activity between these events) over any period of time that the Q has been turned on (i.e. can be days). I have tried the above test on a virgin Q without the Telus Business Inbox client application installed and the Q appears to stay powered up properly so I suspect the Telus application is at fault.

During my testing I also found a low incidence (about 2%) rate that the Q would hang and act strangely when the CALNOT.EXE application was running. CALNOT.EXE is apparently a Windows calendar manager application that is to automatically run at midnight but appears to run every few power ups as well.

My Q has the following versions of code:
Telus Business Inbox Ver 5.5.06251.1 Build 5.5.06251
Radio Version Q2-BP_C0.6.09.01P,Q2 Portable
RIL Version 2.000
MP_BSP_C_02.07.38-26P_HW_P2.1
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14960.2.4.0)

Hopefully this information will assist other Telus Q users that are haunted by an unreliable device. Also I hope that Telus and Motorola and Acura take note of this problem and quickly correct it.

A very frustrated Q user that is getting real tired of the pathetic WM adaptation for the Q and the carriers poor attempt to provide email push services.

I am not using the Business Inbox feature from Telus but have activated the email push function from my exchange server when I did the motorola upgrade.

As for the pattern of it happening every cycle of 3 I will check it closer and see but it definitely does not happen every time.

Just picked up my MDX and have the same problem with my Q. HFL dials out but call is transferred back to the Q. I am running the latest version as of a couple of weeks ago. Ever figure out a fix?

Love this car.

I tried everything, including talking to Motorola and HFL and there was no solution except waiting for new software for the phone that I don't think will ever come since they are releasing a Q with Windows Mobile 6 in the next year.

I don't even know if that would work.

I changed to the new HTC pda with Telus and it is working very well since then. I would not say perfectly, as I think that the HFL software is not up to what I was expecting but at least it works.

BTW, you want to talk about poor software, don't spend any money on the Acura Ipod link. It works but connects your Ipod as if its a cd changer, no seeing anything on your screen.

Good luck with your phone.

Thanks

I have a Verizon based Motorola Q running the latest update (MOL 3). When placing an outbound call through HFL the connection is dropped to the phone consistently. A simple 'transfer' allows the call to be picked up by HFL again. This is definitely annoying and is a problem with the latest update to the Motorola Q. I thought it may be just a Verizon issue but it seems other carriers have the same problem Look at it htis way- at least it is a problem with a $199 phone and not our $40k SUV. :D

Hi,

Just bought 2007 MDX. I was getting the same problem with HFL when i place a call it was dropping audio and reverting back to phone instead of using audio from car speakers. Found a solution. In the Moto Q there is "Profile" it was set to headsets when i link my phone to HFL. Chaning this profile to "car" fixed the problem. Now i can place call through audio speakers of the car and it works great.

Interesting. When i connect via bluetooth in the MDX my phone profile also changes to headset. Unfortunately when I try to select the Car profile it does not switch. How exactly did you do this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I tested it once and it was working fine. today it works 5 out of 10 times. Its very moody :(

I tried profile "Automatic" and every time first call works and afterwords HFL drops call.

I tried "transfer" but it is not working for me.

I get the same result. About half the time it works (when set to automatic), the other half of the time I have to transfer the call back to the phone. Doesn't happen on my wife's LG. I've been hoping for a software update, but none have been released since I bought my MDX in mid-May.
