Hi,
I have a 2001 MDX, and on a recent maintanence to Acura, they said that the front and right side motor mounts were broken. They said that I may notice a little engine vibration if they are not replaced.
I replaced them, and now still hear a vibration noise,
but most at 40 to 45 mph, not at above 50 mph. It is not a constant
noise and does not happen all of the time.
Has anyone had a similar problem, or maybe know the cause for this?
Thanks,

I had the same motor mount problem on my 2002 MDX, but it produced a shudder instead of a vibration. At high loads (1500rpm, going up a hill) the engine would shudder forward and back. But there was also a vibration at different speeds, sometimes low speeds, sometimes at 40mph or so. It was more like a buzzing and sounded like I was going over a rumble strip. It was intermittent and mostly occurred when I let off the throttle and then held it down slightly at low rpms. Tough to reproduce, but do-able.
Well, after replacing both front and side motor mounts they were able to get rid of the shuddering. However, the buzzing was attributed to the third pack of the transmission failing. Acura simply called and said that they would replace it at no cost to me (probably a $5000 expense). Since it is a known design defect (see TSB) they were willing to do a one time goodwill replacement (that's what it actually said on the paperwork). I just hope the refurb transmission lasts for awhile.
All is well now and the truck runs (and sounds) like new! See if your service manager will investigate the transmission for you. |
