Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so this is purely a personal thing. My opinion...the 2007 MDX is one of the ugliest vehicles on the road. It looks like 5 or 6 designers were given separate sections to design and nobody was tasked to integrate the pieces into a coherent theme. The design trend in the industry is toward the station wagon / hearse combo look and the 2007 MDX takes the prize.

Too bad, because the interior is a big improvement and the technology options are excellent.

My opinion and it is nothing more than an opinion.

If you go back in time and put the two side by side, without knowing which is the "new" one, I think the 01-06 would win hands down.

What I really dislike is the rear - the rear pillars block the views and make the rear of the car very, very dark.

Also the sloping roof line cuts down on interior space.

Many years ago Mercedes Benz were known for form following function. No more.

I guess monkey see monkey do - if Mercedes makes sloping roof lines which is function following form or i drive from BMW, Acura must follow!

Dumb I think!

Dude, I couldn't have said it better myself. And yet at the same time, when I see a new MDX on the road, I think, "hey that looks pretty good".

But again, the whole reason I became a Honda/Acura fan was the "form follows function" rule. And clearly the syltists won the arm wrestling contest this time. And here I am stuck with a highly capable and "stylish" SUV called an Armada! lol That's another story though!

I personally don't mind the back or the side, but that front end and that grill just kills it for me. It's just ugly.... just my .02cents.

maybe in a few years it will grow on me till then I'll stick with my old mdx.

I like the 2006, own one..

But I love the 2007...

Probably won't own one (2007 MDX) though, the old & new MDX is a bit small for us. First chance, we're going back to the Expedition, (or Buick Enclave).

Case in point, we're going out of town today, and the MDX will be in the garage, in favor of our 2000 Expedition.

Probably just me but the 07 just blends in with the Muranos and other smaller, rounded SUV's. The pre 07 MDX's have a distinctive look that I still turn my head to look at them. Now owning an 06, I have become even more in tune with the distictive styling changes that they made over the years. I always looked at my 02 in a wierd and disturbing way but find myself doing it more with my new one.

Holy crap I've got issues.

Being an outsider to Acura ownership, it is the styling of the '07 MDX which attracted me.

I see this debate over and over when styling changes. Frequently, the owners of the previous model do not like the new style. I am going through the same thing with our Corvette...I hate the new style. If you really love the style of the vehicle your own, most changes to it are negative.

I had just trade in my 02 MDX to the 07. I do agree with you that the 07's rear pillar does block the views a little bit more than the 02's, however the head room for the 3rd row is actually higher. My head did not hit the hatch frame on the 07's when I sit there. :). I miss my 02 with all these good times together, but I'm in love with my 07:10:

I was attracted by the new look of the MDX, and more importantly it satisfied my wife's critical eye. Today I had the opportunity to compare the two much more closely, as I took the '07 into the dealer to have the roof rails installed, and they gave me an '06 loaner.

I much prefer the '07, especially it's interior and the technology that now adorns it. Of course, I was probably more dismayed when I stepped in the loaner and it was filled with trash and muddy floor mats!

I looked at the speedometer and it had a little more than 12K on it, yet this loaner looked like it should have had 112K on it! That is one thing that has led to my opinion falling short of perfection for Acura thus far... I love the car, but I have not witnessed the pride in dealer ownership as I did from my experiences with the neighboring Lexus dealership. Don't know if this is typical for all Acura dealerships or not, but when I walked into the Lexus showroom, the Lexus staff went out of their way to sell the car, to sell their service and sell the entire Lexus lifelong relationship. I have not witnessed that from Acura.

I've learned to deal with that as I love the MDX, and it was it's own design and function that won me over the Lexus in the end. :4:

I almost got the the '04 MDX from a private party, then went to the dealer to neg on an '06. Then I saw the 07' and wasn't sure about the look. Held off on the '06, went home and started looking into the '07. The more I look at the new body, the more I like it.

It's much more hip, cooler looking than the old style. I hated the murano before but now I like it too. I also like the CX-7 and CX-9.

It's something you grow to love. The old is still not bad. My bro has the '02 MDX and my best friend just got the '04 MDX.

Bottom is this: You have to like this new crossover look. Once you get use to it, you'll love the look of the new '07 MDX.

In a few years, most if not all SUV will look like the '07 MDX. You'll see.

I would have to say I like the new look. It a little cleaner and more modern look. I don’t think they are going in the wrong direction with the MDX.

I would have to agree that it is a matter of preference but as an Acura owner since 2001 I think that Acura has done a great job on the redesign inside and out. Ultimately I think it is more manly than the original although my wife really like the X....but she will continue to drive her Toyota.

It’s the ’07 … hands down.

Right away I liked the bold, more aggressive look, but I wasn’t hyped about the grille at first. Everything else is great — the technology is amazing, the interior is stylish and comfortable, and the ride is sweet. I'm glad I bought the X ... the more I drive it (I’m just over 2K miles), the more I love it.

The interior design is a major improvement, although materials still look a bit on the cheap side. The back end looks sportier and a bit more luxurious. Side view; neither better or worse. The first thing I would want to do with and '07 is get rid of the grill! Cheap, plastic, overdone grill = horrible. It's aweful. I agree that the whole car looks like it doesn't fit together in that it doesn't have an integrated theme or design clue.

If a Toyota Sequoia was redesigned with similar edgy styling, I'd buy it for sure.
