Question for SuperTech, re: filling ATF - Click HERE for Original Thread

This is actually a question about my TL, but it sort-of applies here since it has to do with the Jet-Install Kit that was put on the defective trannys as a band-aid approach to fixing the problem.

I just did the 60K tune-up on my '02 TL-S and I did a 1X drain-and-fill. I've got the kit installed which, obviously, goes in where the fill plug used to be. Everything I've read said just fill through the dipstick, but what a PITA that turned out to be. Do the techs remove the kit and fill through the original plug, or do they go through the dipstick as well? And if they do go through the plug, how hard is it to remove the jet-install kit? Looks like an open wrench slid in from the side will loosen the bolt, and then a socket on the bracket bolt to remove it and it should come out.

...use a turkey baster as a funnel to get the fluid into the dip stick hole with some success. Personally, I would try that rather than removing anything else. You might try a search because someone posted some photos some time ago on how they did it and it seemed to be a great idea. just a thought.....

It's actually pretty easy to fill with the jet kit on.

Just take a long extension with a 12mm socket instead of the 17mm you would have used if it didn't have the jet kit, and remove the bolt that holds down the jet. Pull the jet out of the modified plug. You may have to twist and wiggle it a bit.

The hole just happens to be the perfect size to accept those really long funnels that everyone uses to fill transmissions, and it holds it straight up. Fill up the 3qts, shove the jet back in, make sure it's seated, and tighten the holddown bolt making sure it also secures the bracket it originally held down as well.

I fill the atf into the dip stick hole both for my 02 TL-P and MDX ..just
got a small funnel from the 1$ shop and it fit well to the dip stick hole
....:D It will take a extra 5 minutes to fill but will save 30 minutes to
remove the jet kit and re-install it ..............................

I can R&R the jet from the fill plug in like 15 seconds. Not sure where you get 30 minutes.

I was going to say, that sounds pretty easy. I didn't realize the bolt/plug on the ATF fill hole was hollow in the center for the tube. Because you can't see it, I assumed it was a metal fitting to which the tube attached. So the tube just passes through the hole, and the bracket is what keeps it from popping out? Man, they really did band-aid that solution. :D

But thanks--it will make it a lot easier at the next D&F.
