| Driving in the snow in Oklahoma City, when the check engine light came on and car started to slide more, also the VTM-4 light came on. I placed the car on park and the RPM jumps from 1-2 ,1-2 like a heartbeat. gave it a 5 hour rest, still does it. has anyone had this problem before? |

Were your seat heaters on? I saw an rpm jump once -- scared the heck out of me -- never happened again. I decided that it was one of those strange combinations of events -- stopped for a light, seat heater on, and the tach jumped. |

| Well $450 later Acura found the problem, the Idle Sensor. just went out for no reason. oh well. at least it wasnt the transmission or the differential. |

I had the same problem. It was was the IAC Valve. Idle Air Control Valve. Acura wanted $350 to fix. I fixed it for $98. Two screws and a plug. That was all it was. |

I cleaned mine out of all the gunk accumulated in the valve and put it back in. That was 40K miles ago and the problem hasn't recurred. Also, read the codes! It took only a few minutes, and it told me exactly what was wrong. |

Hey, where is this valve exactly, and what did you use to read the codes? Thx.
Not too long ago, I also got both the CEL and VTM-4 lights, and after 2 weeks of replacing a ton of parts, it was a sensor in the engine, but it wasn't the IAC valve. So much for 'state of the art', huh? |

The valve is near the front of the throttle body. It also has a small rubber coolant line going into it.
I used the car chip that can read the codes and record driving parameters. You can retrieve the code through the serial port on your PC.
I might be wrong, but I don't think there is an Idle sensor. Is it the Throttle Position Sensor they are talking about? If so, you are very unlucky. I haven't seen one break down before in any of the cars I own. |

Advance Auto Parts will read the code for you, but all mine said was there was a malfuction with the idle system. It did not say excatly what it was. I called Acura and a very nice mechanic told me that he was 99.9% sure thats what it was. And sure enough it was. |
