| I recieved an 07 MDX in November to replace my 05 MDX. The things they have done to make the vehicle better are great! However, my locking mechanizm froze up and the dealership told me that that is a problem with the lock accuator and they couldn't do anything for me to fix it. So I can't get in my MDX when it is cold; which kinda defeats the purpose of having an suv in the winter. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it? Any help would be appreciated. |

Thats bull****. If something is broken they HAVE TO fix it. They acknowledge there is a problem and they are not honoring the warranty. Don't spend a penny. Bring it back and talk to the GM, don't be afraid to call the "big guys," Acura HQ if you will.

Is it because water drips in the lock and then freezes?
You can buy antifreeze for this (you spray it in the lock and it should fix it).
Not sure what the problem with the lock accuator would be (assuming it's not a design flaw allowing water to flow in the lock). Not an expert.. |

| I thought there was moisture in it too and tried that once it got above freezing one day and could get into it but the very next night it stranded me in 25 degrees and I had to call a cab. When I talked to the dealership they told me they could replace the lock but it would just keep doing that. So if it happens just call roadside assistance. I said every time? I got a sheepish affirmation. Basically, they told me that I wasn't the only one they have had come to them with this issue and that Acura hasn't given them a solution to fix this problem with yet and I should just keep checking to see when they do. I was flabbergasted! |

| I dont understand, what does the frozen lock have to do with unlocking. Dont you use the keyfob if the lock on the door is frozen over? Unless the door is leaking inside and than refreezing. That would be a serious safety recall and need to be fixed pronto. I would demand a loaner and to pick up your car when it is all fixed. You are way to nice. Thats bull**** as Mike said. |

JohnBoy, I tried everything. The keyfob, the key in the door, spraying anitfreezing agents, even pouring warm water on the outside of the door to warm it up and nothing. The crazy thing is that when I used the keyfob you could hear it (the lock) trying to move open but it wouldn't like it was jamming and the alarm wouldn't even go off. I don't know what's going on with it but my fiance is trying to get it hashed out with the dealership. But they wouldn't do anything for me. |

Heres what you do, you ask for an equally valued car as a loner until the get the fix from HQ. Don't take this **** from them. It is ridiculous, they sell you a product which comes close to 50K after TTL and then you can't use it, so they tell you to call them and wait an hour every time it drops below 32 degrees?
Get an 06 MDX or an RL as a loner until they get the fix from Acura. Do not take anything less. Talk to the GM, explain you are very angry, threaten to return the car and tell them you want the same deal when they have one that works. Call Acura HQ, do something...

When I testdrove the 2007 MDX it was also freezing (around 28F) and there was no problem to unlock. There was a lot of ice on the MDX since it melted the day before and then froze up.
The dealership just opened so it wasn't opened before.
I would demand a 2007 MDX loaner car (at least for a day) to see if this is limited to your vehicle (as long as it's freezing). During that time they should investigate the lock mechanism (question is if it's caused by ice or just temperature).
Maybe as a temporary solution you could program the window to open when you try to unlock (unless it's in sync with the unlock).
Also did you try to open the tailgate? |

I don't think it is all of them or else it would have been recalled by now but the dealership told me I am not the only one. I believe it is the temperature because it was really dry and cold for quite a few days here. I tried the tailgait too. The problem affects all doors it won't unlock at all. So nothing that is supposed to happen when you unlock it works except for the exterior lights blink when you use the keyfob. |

| I am so sorry people but I have to vent just a little. My fiance is talking with the GM of the dealership and slowly getting somewhere with this whole thing. But really why is it that in this day and age of equality that a woman can go into a dealership and unless she is a total b***h they treat her like she doesn't have a legit problem, is brushed aside, and worse yet treated like she is stupid. I have test drove many vehicles that range from Toyota to Lexus and all of them are the same. These guys talk to me like I don't know jack crap and am only interested in the frills of the vehicle. I know how to completely rebuild a small block 350 chevy engine from the bare block up...betcha some of these salesmen don't know how. I know a thing or two about vehicles. My fiance and I spend so much money on a luxury vehicle to have an issue with and for me to just be brushed aside because I lack a phallus is just REALLY upsetting. Sorry again for the venting people... |

It happened to me also. My driver side lock got froze three time already. When I press the unlock on the keyfob, all other doors unlock but the driver side. I noticed it happens when the temp is below 30F. I have not contact the dealer yet, anyone got a solution? |

grn_id_drgn , this maybe a long shot ... when I had my BMW, I had a somewhat similar issue with the trunk, the trunk can be unlocked using the remote, when the temperature is at freezing or below, the trunk does not unlock , makes a ticking sound like it wants to unlock the trunk but does not succeed in doing so.
I came back to the dealer and asked what the issue was, they asked me to leave the vehicle and what they found out was the actuator was actually defective. Once replaced, everything went well.
So ask the dealer to check the actuator. Long shot, but maybe worth it.
Can you share who the dealer is ? |

I bet the majority of all the employees if not all at the dealership couldn't do that.
Regardless of if it has a solution or not, it is unacceptable, and thus should be dealt with by giving you a loner of equivalent value or level, again, RL or 06MDX.

CRAZYMJB put it rather mildly!!! Either they fix it or they give you a new vehicle that does not have the problem.
If this dealer continues to give you problems go directly to Acura at regional or higher level.

| Thanks to my fiance stepping in, the dealership is going to take the vehicle give us an equivalent loner and replace the accuator to see if that fixes the problem. So until they stop working with my fiance I am gonna be the bigger person and not say which dealership it was. My personal experience with dealerships is because I am a pettite female who isn't a b***h...so it is across the board not just this Acura. Unfortunately, the stereotyping is still rampant in this community. So I will keep you all updated on whether or not this fixes the problem. |

Yeah that happens pretty often regardless . Though you could always try another Acura dealer.
Please keep us posted if the new accuator will fix it. I'm certainly curious since I was thinking about buying one and driving up to Canada. But I'm now thinking I could wait little bit longer:-).
By the way did you ever try the program to open window at unlock? That seems like a workaround? |

Sorry to hear about all that crap, you know whats funny is as much as we have advanced as a society it just goes to show how ignorant and dumb people can be. My wife makes the decision on what car to purchase for her to drive. And she makes more money than me. But with all that aside I hope they get this problem fixed to your satisfaction. Also check the doors and make sure everything is back togeather right and without gaps or scrathes on the inside panels. One mark and I would make them redo it. Make that clear. Let us know how it turns out. |

Any update? Were they able to fix it?
Still wonder if you would hold the unlock button, would that open at least the windows? |

| So I got my MDX back and they tell me that it is fixed. We got it back yesterday so I haven't really gotten the chance to try to open it below 32 degrees yet but I will tonight. The dealership said the lock accuator was faulty and that there was a bent peice of metal in the locking mechanism as well. So for now all is well I am just hoping they aren't blowing smoke up our a**es. I will let you all know if it opens tomorrow morning as it is supposed to freeze here tonight. |

Any updates so far? Still little bit leery of buying one now and then get stranded possibly... It's not freezing here either so I may not now until next winter.
PS Did you ever as a workaround try to open the windows with the remote (by holding unlock button)? |

I can finally enjoy my new vehicle. I was able to open it when it was freezing and I am now driving it daily. Even though I am still a little miffed about how I was treated the vehicle is great and working properly.
PS. No the windows weren't going down either when the problem was going on. :) |

Hey,
For the past week or so the temperatures in Toronto were -15C or 5F and with the windchill factor were -28 C or -18F. I never had an issue unlocking the car and all the doors.
It takes a little to warm up though... the heated seats help in temperatures like this.
The only trouble I had was with the gas cap. It froze so I had to tap it a few times.
So far so good ! |
