Climate Control Stuck in AUTO - Click HERE for Original Thread

I just noticed that my wife 03 MDX's Climate Control is always stuck in AUTO mode. I recall when I used to control the vent blower direction (feet/defrost/forwardFacing) the AUTO mode would go off. Now, when I muck with the blower direction, I see it change, but the AUTO mode stays lit. The FULL indicator goes off, but AUTO stays on.

I also noticed that I can no longer manually adjust the blower speed below 1 bar. I can increase to full blower speed, but when I try to lower it, it stops at 1 bar. I recall I used to be able to lower such that no bars were showing.

The AC and Heater appear to still work. It just looks like the fan/vent control logic has run amok.

Anybody else out there experiencing wierd behaviour with their climate control? Anyway to reboot this? I was looking for the CTRL-ALT-DEL keys on my Navi screen, but couldn't find them. :-)
csmeance
the ctrl+alt-del keys are MAP+MENU+CANCEL for 5 seconds for the navi diagnostics. I would undo the battery for 30 mins then plug it back up. Have the radio and navi codes handy if you do this.

I tried disconnecting the battery. That didn't work. I'll try going into the Navi Diags. Maybe I'll fumble into something. Thanks.

I'm on my second MDX (2003 and 2006), and as far as I know, even if you manually adjust everything, "Auto" will still be displayed. "Full Auto" goes away once you adjust fan speed, blower location, or A/C.

Also, I was never able to adjust the blower below one bar in my 2003 or 2006. Am I reading this right, because it sounds like your car is acting normal.

Is there a way to turn off Auto mode on the 03 MDX - When in auto mode the air conditioner is set to on all the time, this kills the MPG and robs power from the motor unnecessarily. I can manually turn off the air conditioner but that is a pain in the arse to remember every time you turn on the system. It doesn't make sense to me that Acura would automatically enable the air conditioning compressor every time you turn on the fan from the off position.

Help.....

Change the mode and you should be able to turn off the air. I run mine with the fan in auto only.

I know i can manually change the mode and manually turn off the air conditioner but by default the air conditioner is always on when you activate meaning turning the blower on. I have to push the air conditioner button every time i use the climate control to shut it off - the default setting is always on. Not a smart thing.

Is there anyway to have the AUTO not display? So far i see 2 settings, Full Auto and Auto - I'd like to turn AUTO completely off. I believe this may fix my problem. I thought prior to me pushing the AUTO button which activated FULL AUTO just the temperature displayed however i can't really remember. I've had the MDX for 4 days now and can make sense of this air conditioner thing.

With all of my other non honda/acura vehicles the air conditioner had to me manually activated. The Acura automatically activates it everytime hence killing your gas mileage. Honda couldn;t have designed it this way. Gotta be a fluke.

Is your AUTO always on?

I have mine in AUTO not FULL AUTO. It will stay this way until I change it. Sometimes I do have to manually turn off the air if full auto has been engaged, but once I am in AUTO mode with the air off, it will stay that way until changed. Hope that helps.

Leave it on auto then push the off button. Turn the fan on and you'll notice that the air/conditoin off display is not at the bottom of the LCD screen in the center of the dash. Once you click air/off it apprears leading me to beleive the air con compressor is on allowing it to cycle.

Please let me know if yours doews the same.

Thanks a mil.

Anytime I turn the system off using the OFF button, the air conditioner will always reset to the ON position when the system is turned back on. I rarely turn off the system. The AUTO does a great job, IMO, of keeping the cabin comfortable in winter or summer.
