Big discounts...
Just received an email from a NJ dealer...
MDX Lists for $40,665 ~ Buy for $37,732
MDX Sport Lists for $46,265 ~ Buy for $42,772

Kind of early in the new-model life-cycle.

Good news! It will be interesting to see sales numbers for January next week or so.

It definitely helps having a high concentration of dealers such as the Northeast. When I did my initial Internet queries on Acura's website, I found 15 dealers within a 75 mile radius from my home.

After I made my purchase and realized the cost savings that came with dealer competition, I experimented in a similar exercise, using the Midwest, where I lived for the past few years. I only found two dealers within a 75 mile radius, and there was little to no willingness to discuss anything below MSRP.

The strategy changes a bit when you are in an area with fewer dealerships. Normally you decide what you want and get competitive quotes on that vehicle from different dealers. When there are only a few dealers in an area then you need to make it a competition between manufacturers. If you want the MDX from a dealer that won't deal, you go in and tell that you really like the MDX but the Lexus dealer gave you an offer that is really hard to refuse. That way think that they will lose the sale entirely if they don't deal rather than just waiting for you to decide that you will pay their price. I usually employ both strategies. And of course buying at the end of a typically slow sales month helps even further.

Our local dealer said "We only sell the MDX at MSRP." I said, "No you won't...not to me!" :D

Could you provide the dealer name or PM me? I'm in NJ and will be looking for a new MDX soon. Thanks.

I deleted the email, but I believe it was a dealer in the Princeton/Trenton area. But I have seen similar discounts from dealers in north Jersey. Just email the Internet dept of a few dealers and say you saw these discounts.

I think you may start to see the prices on these come down even further over the next few months. The problem now is the car is hot and kind of selling itself. However I just picked up mine for $38K even for base model. Wanted a little lower but it included mats and pinstriping so thought it was fair. This is about $1,300 over invoice. You should be able to get this no problem, just mention that another dealer is willing to give you xxxx regardless if true or not. They originally offered me only $300 off sticker until I said another dealer would give me better deal. After that we closed the deal.
