New Sport, $3300 off MSRP in Houston - Click HERE for Original Thread

I pulled the trigger over the weekend and bought the Sport - Black/Ebony. I did the email attack, and played 4 the dealers in Houston off of each other. One refused to quote a price in email, and one would only quote over the phone. The other 2 gave me written prices, both around $2k off MSRP. I then emailed all of the dealers back with my lowest price and within an afternoon I had almost $3k off. I took that to my preferred dealer (I have bought 4 Acuras previously from them), and asked them what they could do for a 'loyal customer' and they beat it by another $500 and threw in pinstriping and window tint for free. They also gave me Acura's MSRP on accessories - no installation charges. I got the Sport running boards, roof rails, crossbars, day/night mirror, cargo tray and wheel locks added. Sticker: $47,800 My price: $44,500 :)

There were plenty on the lot at all 4 dealers too. I think the discounting has begun... nobody quoted me MSRP.

Now, if only it would stop raining here I could take some pics :(

Internet buying used to be easier; when I picked up my '03 CL-S it was too easy - out the door $6k off sticker with a bunch of free accessories. These days they make it a little more difficult. Many won't quote prices via email, but all you really need is one to get the ball rolling.

I found the Internet Manager's email address on 1 dealer's site, and I had a business card from my preferred dealer - the other 2 I had to play the "Request a Quote" game. Fine by me, they tried to call me but I ignored the phone calls as I put in the Comments to email me a quote. Eventually, they all sent email. One wouldn't quote a price in email - he "didn't want the other Houston dealers knowing what a great discount he could offer me (he followed up via phone and offered me $1200 off MSRP). Another would only reply "I can beat any deal by $500." The other 2 dealers actually listed prices as I requested.

I forwarded the lowest quote I got ($2k off sticker) to one of the two who did not quote a price in email, got him to beat it by $300 and give me the accessories at Acura's MSRP (check list/installed prices for accessories on Honda's eStore!). Then I forwarded that to the "beat any deal by $500" guy - which he did. I forwarded that email to my preferred dealer and he beat that by $500. Below are the numbers from round #1:

  • $46,265 - 2007 MDX-Sport Black w/Parchment (including destination)
  • *All the accessories mentioned below include the labor to install, otherwise they will be at the price you've researched
  • $ 324 - Roof Rails
  • $ 245 - Cross Bars
  • $ 335 - Auto Day/Night Mirror
  • $ 142 - Cargo Tray
  • $ 665 - Sport Running Boards
  • $ 112 - Wheel Locks
  • $ 1,823 - Total Installed Accessory Price
  • $46,265 - 2007 MDX-Sport Black/Ebony(includes Destination)
  • $48,088 - Total Vehicle Price

  • $46,088 - Total Vehicle Selling Price

I think invoice is $41,773 with dest., plus $1508 in accessories = $43,281. Since I paid $44,500, it looks like I got it for $1,200 over invoice - plus free window tint and hand pinstriping. I have to mention that I purchased 4 Acuras from the same dealership over the last 15 years, and I was not shy about making sure they knew I was a loyal customer. I am sure that probably helped a lot. The Manager at Gillman Acura did not want me telling folks what I got the MDX for!

I got a quote for 43,500 with no accessories plus tax for mdx sport. Good?

I think so... if you want accessories installed by the dealer, check out Acura's eStore. I found much better prices than the dealer will quote you (mine wanted over $1k for Sport running boards... WTF?), and it shows the installed price BY YOUR DEALER. Or DIY and save even more! There's more I want to add and I'll go to hondacuraworld or eBay for those.

Check out this dealership response to my email asking them why they were listing an 07 MDX Sport/Entertainment/Bourdeaux for $50K??????????????????????? He is the idiots answer:

Well the reason I'm trying to "fetch 50 grand" is that i have also
included a protection package with the vehicle, such as cargo
tray, mud guards, and a first place finish that go's along with the
4year 50k mile warranty. 2nd if you had met the reserve, I would
be open to negotiation. Does that answer your question?
efenska
What... no gold-plated third-row seats? What is "a first place finish" anyway? oh, right... car wax and Armor-All. I can't believe you passed on that deal
