A newbie... and a new MDX owner! - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm a new MDX owner! :D We just bought at Acura of Orange Park in Jacksonville this past weekend. Overall the experience was good but not excellent. The Sales Manager was awesome but the finance guy was green and unwilling to listen at times.

The finance guy and sales guy waited on us for 2 hours past closing on a Sunday so I have to give them props for that. It took 2.5 hours to do the paperwork because of the finance guy being ignorant though.

My husband negotiated over the phone (we are in Atlanta) for $1000 over invoice on a Nimbus Grey/Ebony Sport model. We paid invoice (including destination) plus $1000 and a dealer fee of $599. I wasn't crazy about the dealer fee but I figured it wasn't the end of the world. We were supposed to pay "cost" on the BSMs and pro pack but I ended up telling them to take the pro pack off (decided it wasn't worth it) and we paid $495 for the BSMs installed. Now I think we paid too much for the moldings but whats done is done.

Total price paid (including BSM): $43866

36 mo lease, 15K miles, $1000 due at signing (included first payment and a few fees)... lease payment (no tax) is just under $700/mo (with Preferred tier money factor... we were just under the SP tier :( )

Being in Atlanta we tried the new Acura dealership here that another member praised. We actually ended up with the SAME salesman, told him that we knew they'd done a good deal before and he only offered us $600 off MSRP - PASS! I guess its just being in the right place at the right time.

The MDX is replacing a 2004 Nissan Murano. We traded and paid the difference (it was a purchase). I keep asking myself why we've never leased before!

Even though I am a newbie here I read all about leasing on here before I did the deal. It was our first lease so I appreciate all the knowledge!

Welcome!
You're going to enjoy the X. I've got mine for 2 months now and it still excites when I start it up in the morning.

Update on body moldings:

I JUST looked to see what retail is on the body moldings. I told my husband and he is calling the Sales Manager tomorrow to request either roof rails or a front garnish be thrown in for free (and installed for free next time we're there).

He said we would be paying cost and that is most certainly NOT cost by any stretch of the imagination.

I guess it pays to do your homework before hand huh? Hopefully we can work something out. Feeling kind of silly now.

Congrats. When I asked the guy if I can drive people to him, he said no. But, still I did post. It was in December for me, so end of year pressure was there! After seeing several others posts, even mine seemed to be an ordinary sale! Past is past. Please enjoy the new ride.

For Sport you also got Navigation right, so it looks like a pretty good deal with BSM.

Thanks for the welcome! I definitely think I will like the Acura over my old Nissan.

rsgacura - I actually didn't see your post as I tried to only look at deals that were within the last few weeks. I saw SullyC5er's post about Jackson. I don't remember the salesman's name now. He was really knowledgeable and helpful except when it came to price :). I wish I could've done the deal there. It would've been a lot closer for me! However, they also didn't have the color combo I really wanted anyway. He did a search and no where in GA had one in stock or on order.

The salesman is Darren Scholle. He is a good guy, but like all car salesmen, he is an employee. The discounts go up & down with inventory levels. I understand that Jackson Acura sold 11 of MDX's they had in stock, so price goes up.

Sounds like you got a good deal. You will enjoy the MDX...Acura put together a nice vehicle. Enjoy!

Ahh, well I guess it was all the same guy! Yes, that is all true. I think they had sold a good many (6 or 9, something like that) MDX's that day alone. It was definitely NOT the day to go ask for a great deal. I was irritated because I didn't get what I wanted right then ;)... but it all worked out.

The MDX was great on the ride home yesterday. I just have to find some time to play with and learn the navi now.

i used AAA for mine. Paid $500 over invoice. Got 20% off all accessories (added chrome steps/roof rack/rails/side mouldings/dimmer mirror/music link/cargo liner) got 20% off extended Acura Care warranty and didn't have to negotiate with anyone. I was sent to the fleet manager, he showed me the paperwork and I signed. Done and done. All told, paid just a hair over $45K for MDX TECH with all the listed accessories (with dealer installation)

That's a good deal. I dumped AAA when they wouldn't tow my Vette, maybe I should have kept them.

You can buy or lease a vehicle through AAA? I had no idea. That is a really good deal you got. Congrats!

You said you talked with the Fleet manager. I inquired with Acura about a business lease (no personal gaurantee) but I never found anyone who knew if that did that kind of lease at all. Does AAA do it?

Believe me, I was as surprised as anyone. I had no idea. Here's how it works:

If you are a member of AAA, you call them up and tell them you'd like to buy a car or lease a car (it works for used cars as well if you are dealing with a dealer). They ask you questions about make, model, accessories, etc. They then contact the dealer for you, give them the specs and the dealer contacts you. You deal only with the fleet manager, not with floor salesmen.

When you show up at the dealer, the fleet manager HAS to show you the invoice the dealer paid for the car, as well as THEIR cost for accessories. The standard deal is that you pay $500 over invoice and you get a percentage off of the accessories. You don't negotiate, haggle, etc. The price is already set.

Interestingly, I asked a floor salesman at the SAME dealer about the AAA deal (basically just trying to find out if they participate) and the slimeball told me no. He gave me a song and dance, etc. I told him thanks but no thanks, called AAA the next day and went in to buy the car. I also reported the salesperson.

Some dealerships might not participate, which is why you should call AAA first. They will locate the closest dealer to you.

FYI, Costco offers a similar program.

It's important that you ask to see all the paperwork and take your time looking at the numbers. They can offer you good prices on the car/accessories, but then jack up the labor to install those things. Be diligent. If you are cool with buying a car at $500 over invoice, buying a car is a breeze.

If you like the "game' more, then you might be able to do even better, but that's not my thing. I like no hassle. :)

$500 over invoice must be a regional thing?? I can't imagine too many dealers in the midwest willing to go along with $500 over invoice. I will definitely have to check this out when the time comes. It's about time I started taking advantage of that AAA membership! Thanks stoke2.

edit-- just checked and this service is not available in my area! :3:

Wow, that is a good service they offer especially on a "hot" car. I looked at the AAA website and there is one dealer in my area - the first one we went to actually - that participates. We didn't give them much thought because they said they were selling at MSRP right out of the gate. I will definietely keep this in mind for next time. My hubby wants a TL but he JUST got a new car 6 mos ago. Too bad they don't have a 6 mos lease program that is fantastic... he'd be all over that!

Thanks for the info!

Wow, I didn't realize that this was a regional thing. What a drag!!!

That's good to know about the AAA discount thing. My wife has had AAA for a long time and Acura Carland participates in the program, so we'll have to use that to our advantage.

I tried dealing with Jackson Acura but the salesman I had (Reggie was his name) was not that knowledgeable about everything and he was not willing to deal on the price of the car at all. He did offer me what I wanted for my trade-in, but he pushed leasing too hard and that is not what my wife and I wanted to do. I think I'll go back to Carland since it's closer.

Hey wiz you're just down the road from me! Good luck with Carland. Let us know how the AAA thing works out. I am interested to see if it is $500 over invoice here too. That would be awesome.

I'll be sure to key everybody in on our dealings. My wife and I are still trying to save up a little more money to put down to keep the car payment low enough, but I think we will be ready to purchase within the next couple of months.

I think AAA's vary from state to state. Since I move every few years, joining them did not make sense - they only are for the particular state where you sign up.
