This is the biggest f#@king waste of money EVER. I'm going back to the dealer tomorrow to ask them if they would be interested in removing it and giving me my money back.
I don't know if the technology in the Mercedes and BMW are superior. I haven't seen them, but this "interface" is basically useless. The TTS overwrote all my playlists (renamed them into jibberish) and using the thing is maddening. I haven't checked other model year forums on this subject yet, I was hopeful it would be a cool feature, but DANG, this is AWFUL.
I'd rather have an A/B switch for my AUX input (I also have a Sirius radio hooked up) and manually control my IPOD through that port. At least I'd have some logical control over my IPOD.
Literally, this piece of s#$t software interface could have been written by my two year old. I feel like I'm back in the stone ages.
I can't imagine I'm the only one in this. Maybe I should have read previous forums, but it's late and I can't bear the thought of it. More tomorrow I suppose.

Okay, I changed my mind and checked out some the links here. I suppose I should have consulted with these beforehand, as they confirm everything I already knew. Oy.
I like the idea of burning the DVD's. Gonna try that tomorrow and see how it goes. I have 45 gigs of music, but I'll test one and see what happens.
Hoping the dealer is going to be nice about this. We'll see. |

FYI, told my dealer how useless the Music Link is. He was surprised, as he thought (like many people) that the "new" version was going to provide a better user experience, etc.
Anyway, they are removing it and refunding my money, which I thought was a cool move. He also said that they are going to advise their customers against purchasing this thing and they will complain to Acura. When I bring the car in Friday to have them remove it, I'm going to give my sales guy a "demo" of this POS.
At least everyone is being cool about it! :) |

I asked for the IPod link and my dealer told me that it was no good. They strongly recommended that I not buy it. I figured that if a car salesman tried to NOT sell me something extra, it must be really bad.
Let us know how the DVD goes. I didn't know that apple's format (whatever it is) could be used that way. My son does it with MP3 files, but he doesn't use an IPod. |

| I was able to make the DVD (DVD-R) no prob. You can do it two ways. One is to just burn a playlist as a DVD or you can just copy the files over and burn as well. The player recognizes both. In both cases, you can see the artist name and song title when the song plays. It doesn't really help with navigation however, but it's not bad, considering I burned about 800 songs to one DVD! |

This will only work on MP3's and not Apple's AAC encoded music in case you have AAC files.
I have personally done the DVD route and my iPod now sits on my desk. |

| that's interesting. it burned AAC files fine, but I didn't check whether those specifically would play back. is that where the problem occurs? will the player simply skip over it? |

I would have to guess and say yes. My TiVo's when streamed to skip the AAC files since only Apple has the legal right to decrypt them.
Apple to this day has not licensed AAC to anyone so other than iTunes and the iPod there is nothing commerical that can play their files. |

| ^^ Weird. My Nokia phone uses the AAC format for the ringtones and other related tones. So, there must be other devices that can decode AAC. I tried playing the AAC files on my PC and laptop - they both won't play it (it said something about protected files). |

although a complete hassle, one way around AAC's is to convert the files to .aiff by burning an audio CD, then reimporting as mp3.
i'm sure there are some aac>mp3 hacks out there too. i'm all apple, so having aac really hasn't caused any issues for me. |

| I use a program called Media Monkey, it lets me copy any file or playlist from my Ipod onto either a DVD or CD. Artist Name,Album,Song then show up on my display. |

Have you ever tried any software packages that allow you to burn DVD-A disks?
I personally have not tried this, but I recently came across this forum discussion, which looks pretty informative for anyone interested in trying this...
