I had a "situation" at the dealer last week and I'm curious what your opinions are....
When I bought the car, I had a bunch of accessories added on. They didn't have time to fully detail the car when I drove off the lot, so they promised to do so when the remaining accessories arrived (some were on backorder). They made good on their promise, except....
The detail squad shampoo'd my carpets and mats with a REALLY strong smelling shampoo. It's basically one of those industrial strength deals. I appreciate the effort on their end, but WHY WOULD YOU SHAMPOO NEW CARPETS? JUST VACUUM THE DAMN THINGS.
Frankly, more than 50% of the enjoyment I get from my car is the "new car smell". The X's smell particularly good with all the leather. Now mine smells like a mix of new car and industrial strength carpet shampoo. I used to open the door and smile when I smelled the car, but now......
It was completely overwhelming at first, but has gone away to a point that it's no longer overwhelming, but I can still detect it. I've been assured by the dealer that this will go away completely (it's been 48 hours).
I realize that this might be splitting hairs to some, but to me, this is a big deal.....to the point of me wanting to have them replace the carpets at their cost if this doesn't resolve itself. To me, they are damaging the vehicle. Again, just my opinion.
I want some honest opinions, I'm fine if you think I'm being an ass, but I'm REALLY pissed about this and am curious if ya'll would be too.

Give it a couple of weeks. If it then has the smell, as verified by an independent 3rd party, then it is time to have more discussions with the dealer.

One of my friend worked for big 3 Auto makers in Detroit. He knows I change cars too often.
Once I was mentioning the smell, he said that smell comes from all the chemicals from the parts and will cause cancer or so if we smell it more often. I was thinking they put a nice and cool perfume from factory!!!
I was joking with him since I change too often, I am prone to cancer!!! |
