Is it me? or is my gas cover not even with the body? the gas cover is sticking out from the top a bit, and it's not contour with the lines and curves of the body. i don't recall seeing that before when i was filling up, but not i noticed it today. is this happening to anyone else?:(

Yes, it happened to my wife's Altima last week. Luckily she saw the culprit in action. NJ requires attendants to fill the gas tank. This Bozo wrenched on the door somehow. We fought with him and the owner of the station for several days. We prevailed and they sent us to a body shop where they lucked out. The place was able to actually bend it back the way it belonged and you'd never know there was a problem.

I did not notice this before either but lately it has caught my attention. I called the dealer and they said I'm the second guy to call in about that. He said that's how they come, some are sticking little bit out on top, while other are flat. They can't do anything about it. When a visited the dealer, I looked at the Xs on the lot and he's actually right - some are okay and some are not.

Can't they fix it? Now that I noticed it, it's kinda annoying.

I'm going back to have the CD player fixed. CD's won't eject (no sticky labels). I've mentioned the problem on the service appointment personnel. I'll see what happens.

Anyone else notice the same thing? Was it fixed?

Thanks.

Got MDX 2007 - Tech, back in 12/26/07 (Christmas gift to myself!)

Ask them to fix it or give you one that doesn't have the issue. They'll probably laugh but it may just motivate them a little. I wouldn't let this issue go. I'd hound them. But that's me.....

Okay, I had the gas cover checked when I went for the service for the CD problem. They showed me that there is no place to make the adjustments since the cover is connected to the body by a "plastic arm". He however, tried to bend it a bit on top just to see. That sort of help and reduced the gap - aligned it better. He also place an order for a new one and said to see it that will make a difference.

Thanks andreseng. Dealer was accomodating so all is good!

hey gmdx07fan. which dealer in nj did you go to? i think i might take it to the dealers and get that checked out. i hate it and it's annoying

I shouldn't have read this thread. Now that I've looked at my fuel door, the top part does seem to stick out more.

Had the sane problem. The dealer acknowledges it and has ordered a new cover. It has to be painted to match which I don't know if the match will be acceptable. Will keep you informed.

Yes they are and in my case the top is out slightly but I only noticed it because of this thread.

In my opinion once you start painting new pieces you might be sorry you started this. I would just leave well enough alone.

On most cars the door is metal and therefore not subject on any type of distortion. It is either right or wrong and will not typically flex with age.

This is just another cost savings measure on this vehicle I would have to guess.

You shouldn't apologize for Acura. You're fine. :D

I'm not losing sleep over a fuel door.

On one hand its only a gas door, on the other its a new car, irregardless of the price, it shouldn't have anything out of the ordinary on it.

I sort of fixed this issue by bending the fuel door back a little bit. The plastic hinge is malleable and I was being very careful. It's not that noticeable anymore. YMMV.

I'm afraid to look because it will drive me crazy if it's screwed-up!

Update: Just got my X back from the dealer after a 2 day stay. They ordered a new cover and had to have it painted to match. The new one fits perfectly and the color-match is perfect. I did check out the X's on the lot and about half of them had the ill-fitting gas cover. Wonder if it is a widespread occurance.

Noticed yesterday that the cover had returned to its ill fit so back to the dealer. They admitted that it was not as it should be so added some double sided tape to hold the cover to the bracket. It seems to be better but, time will tell. Was told that they have tried it before and it seemed to work. Called ACS and they were not aware of the problem. They made a note of it!?!!

Picked up our 08 MDX Sport last night. Just finished washing it and while drying I immediately noticed the fuel door sticking out at the top. Glad we're not the only ones.

There's a TSB for the stuck/freezing fuel door issue. Wonder if they'll replace ours under this TSB.

My gas cover actually fell off when I was pumping gas. Scare the crap out of me. Took it to the dealership and they fixed it. Let's just say is not one of the best parts that Acura has built.

I have to get my door checked out as it doesn't seem to fit right, it never releases on the first time I push the button. It seems to be wedged against one side.
AlamoX
My gas cover on my new 08 Sport/Ent is off center in the opening. It's almost touching the body at the three o'clock position and it's difficult to open. Will see the dealer next week.

Mine does the same thing. At first I attributed this to the TSB noted above, never mind the fact that I bought my X over the summer so obviously frozen water's not to blame. At any rate, I'm taking it in tomorrow to have the roof rails installed, and am going to have this checked out. The funny thing is that it appears to fit perfectly.

I really have no issues as far as the alignment is concerned. But my peeve though is that the gas cover seems too flimsy for a luxury vehicle. The gas cover of my 04 maxima is more firm, and its $15K less than my MDX...

I noticed this two weeks ago...had no idea it was such a common problem.

I expect Acura to address it...I am just waiting for my first oil change to get this and some other things looked at....
