I was wondering if anybody out there has compared both of these vehicles side by side. The wife and I were out kicking tires last weekend and I showed my wife the new CRV EX-L and she fell in love with it.

We have yet to drive both vehicles but I have so far been able to get the CRV EX-L with Nav 2wd plus a few accessories as low as $25500.

This price point is very appealing to me. I know obviously the turbo is a big difference I was just wondering if there are any other appreciable differences. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

one4gator,
Here is some feedback from the RDX forum:

The C-RV is a much better vehicle now than it ever has been, IMHO. If only they would put a V6 in it and a little more HP, it would have been the ideal daily driver, especially now that it's available with leather seats and NAV. There have been complaints about seat comfort but a 15-minute test drive won't show that. Increasing power will kill the fuel economy, though. Lastly, the C-RV looks so much nicer in person.

The RDX has been called the Acura version, but if you drive one, it feels like a completely different animal. It's just a different level of tech and luxury. If you're willing to pay the price for the fun ride, it may be worth it.

Having seen both in person I like the general look of the CR-V better but not by much. The leather in the RDX is definately more plush. The two main negatives for me on the RDX is premium fuel and price. This new vehicle will be the wifes daily driver. Mostly highway miles

I have heard in the past the CRV lacked the power to do any serious highway driving. But the reviews on power on the new one have been mixed. We live in Florida so hills and steep terain are out of question.

I have also seen the complaints about the seats. I am not sure how to ferret that one out in a 15 minute test drive.

Thanks for the input.

The RAV4 V6 gets 21/28 in 4wd version versus the new 4wd CRVs 22/28. That's not really killing fuel economy........

The new CRV is impressive and it will be our next vehicle as we economize down to one SUV from a 99 CRV and an 02 MDX. It is a bit whimpy horsepower wise but will love the improved mileage compared to the MDX. Our 99 CRV has been rock solid. I see no reason to spend the $$ for the RDX. I like the simpler design of the CRV. So the CRV is going to be replaced with a 07 CRV and a few more miles on the MDX I will be looking for a G35AWD or 328XI.

The original plan was to upgrade the 02 MDX to the 07 but I have not warmed up to the exterior and interior design of the new MDX - a complete step in the wrong direction for me. The local dealer has a pretty large inventory sitting there while the used inventory of 06 and prior is only 2 vehicles. My sense is they are not getting current owners like myself to trade in and upgrade. This is the complete opposite of when the 06's where on sale.

Took the wifey to test drive this weekend. She loves the CRV. Still not my first choice but I think she has made up her mind. She complained a bit about the engine noise during hard acceleration but I have heard the same about the RDX.

The dealer was a bit uppity about negotiating price. Seems like around here they seem to be in short supply. I offered them 26500 if they threw in the all weather mats and cargo tray plus ttl and was brushed off. I have done some internet shopping and have been given a low price of 26100. So I was thinking that # was pretty solid. The dealer told me they are selling theirs at MSRP and really didnt have to deal.

So looks like we may hold out for a while. I will try to sneak her into the RDX this weekend :).

I thought I would update this thread...

We ended up with the RDX... like some have said... completely different vehicle than the CRV and for that matter the MDX... a quick pic and some comments will follow...

Thanks for all of those who provided input!!

Ok onegator!

HOW has it been with the RDX? How is the stiff ride? Are you finding yourself turning up the volume to drown out the turbo spooler noise? Would you concur the MDX is much more refined?

On a positive note....have you made it past the break in period to open up that Turbo coupled with that high performance DOHC engine? If so how do you like the paddle shifting? No doubt the RDX hugs the road like on rails......

Keep us posted ! :1:

The RDX has been great. Starting to notice the subtle differences. Its the wifes daily driver so she has been providing lots of feedback. I drove the car most of last weekend.

The suspension is definately stiffer but certainly not too bad. Its wierd how it handles some bumps ok and others you really feel. The turbo spooler is noticable but I chalk it up to one of those idiosyncrasies that all cars have. I dont find that too bothersome.

As far as the break in period. Not yet. As I said I already cheated a bit and played with the paddle shifters in sport mode :2:

Probably the biggest complaint is the brake dust. I hope that will dissapate over time. Oh and the A/C is VERY loud when your outside the vehicle barely noticable inside though.

Overall given the price we paid we are very satisfied. I hope to have some side by side pics up this weekend if the weather holds out.

Congrats one4gatr! I'm glad some people are choosing the RDX! I love the vehicle's handling, quick rev's, nice SEATS, & gotta love that TURBO! Try driving the RDX in "D" & use the paddle's to up/down shift! It works great. Hope your wife continues to enjoy the ride! :D

She does enjoy it. Her only complaint to date is that it rides a bit more rough than the MDX. Reminds me alot of our old Prelude. But overall we are very pleased.

Tell her that's why it corners & handles quite well for an SUV, (CUV if you must!) It may not ride like an MDX, but I bet it corners just as good or better! (Ask Fabvsix. He ownes both!)
