Hey everyone,
The other day, I get a phone call from my wife (who typically drives the X). She said she heard a loud "THUD" from the right rear wheel when she was backing out of a parking spot (FYI, the parking spot was on a decline). She said it happened again after backing out of another parking lot when she was grocery shopping.
Now, both occurrences happened within a hour or so of each other the other day. I was at work, so I told her to bring it by and I'd take a look before she took it all the way home.
I get in and start it up, and immediately see the RED brake light on the dash. Knowing that she doesn't typically use the parking brake unless parking on a hill, I get out - and before I can ask her - she says "Oh, I left the parking brake on, didn't I?".
"Yes, yes you did."
I got back in to release the brake, but noticed that it was already "released" - the light was just still on because the pedal wasn't all the way up (if that makes any sense).
I assume that the loud "THUD" she heard in both instances was the sound of it breaking loose?
The question I have is this:
Does the X have a failsafe to "release" the parking brake if sufficient force (like driving in reverse) is applied?
She said she didn't notice any other sounds after the initial THUDS, or feeling like the vehicle was being dragged down by the brake...
I did test the parking brake again, and it seemed to hold fine - I just hope it isn't damaged.
I know she can't be the first person to do this, so I was hoping someone else here could calm my fears...
Thanks!

| Your fine. Do a search for "brake thud" or "brake clunk". It's a feature. ;) |

Wait, is this a first or second generation X? |

| Anyone notice, in threads like this, it's always "the wife" who drove with parking brake on? |

They are also the ones who break the mirrors off the car when backing out of the garage or back into the closed garage door. They can't help it, it's estrogen. |

This is an 02 MDX - so first-gen I assume.
I read about the brake "THUD", I but I thought that was simply a test done while backing up - not a feature of accidentally leaving the parking brake on..?
Thanks!

Lol!
Well, it was the wife that left the parking brake on, but it was my dumb ass who ran it off the road during our last ice storm. Did over $12,000 worth of damage.
So, I think that even if she broke something in doing this, it can't compare to what I did to the thing!
