To all those who have a 2007 MDX with the last 5 digits of the VIN being 13256 or less...
We now have the solution to the bug where the radio comes on all by itself after using the HFL or voice activated navigation features. All dealers were given CDs that will update the firmware inside the audio units. There are two different versions of the update CD that we will use, and that is based on what head unit is actually in the car. |

Hope dealership will start sending out the recall notices. |

That's great news.
It might be worth making that oil change appointment since they now have something else to fix. :) |

Can you shed some light as to what "head units" are put in the X's ?
Thanks SO much for the pro-active approach. Now don't forget the "popping" sound upon start up with several of us here.......
Should we wait to be notified by our dealership or should I call my service rep? :1: |

They might, but I don't think if this is something they're going to mail out notices for. It's not being called a recall, warranty extension, or even a product update. I only have a service bulletin for theis problem.
The head units installed in the various versions of the MDX can be different based on if it has RES or not and if it has the sport package trim of not. There's a 4 digit code printed on the face of the audio unit somewhere in pretty small print. This code signifies what part number it is, and for our purpose here, tells us what version of the software to use when updating it.
Here's part of the bulletin explaining what disc updates what radio....
quote: 1. Check the audio unit number located on the front of
the audio unit to ensure you use the correct
software. Failure to use the correct software will
cause the audio unit to stay on after the ignition
switch is turned off, draining the battery.
• Audio units with identification code 2PF0 or
2TF0: Software Disk Type A.
• Audio units with identification code 2AF0 or
2DF0: Software Disk Type B.

Hey,
1st its nice to have an "insider" so we get the straight answers. I think I speak for everyone when I say thanks.
2nd, do you know if there is a fix or a way to change the setting where when you turn on the RES, the rear speakers either do not go off or if they go off when you 1st turn on the RES and you override the rear speaker back on, that when you change bands (FM to XM to CD, etc) that the rear speakers do not shut off each time and you have to override each time! Its annoying.
3rd, where can I get a service manual for this thing. I like to know how to take things apart or replace minor things (such as the scratched up 3rd row cupholder!
Thanks. |

Thanks, just ordered it. I went to them about 3 weeks ago and the web site said it was not available yet and that they would send an email when it was ready. I guess they didn't. |

I never got the e-mail as well and just by chance found them available and ordered them.
My only complaint is the pages are pretty thin but you do get all the details you need to fix just about anything on these cars if you have the right tools. |

I'll have to play with one some more next week to see what you're talking about. Odds are...there is no fix for it and you'll just have to live with it.

In all honesty, that's probably the biggest difference between technicians and the owners of the cars they work on...about $50k worth of tools! |

Thanks! I appreciate that. I do not know if I made sense last time so I will try again.
Simply turn on the radio and then the RES.
Put a DVD in (Hey that fantastic DVD that came with the car from Acura would work LOL) or you probably could just pick a band different than the front radio for the RES.
Once you turn on the RES and as long as its on a band different from what is on the front (say XM on the front and FM on the back) the back speakers and the subwoofer will turn off.
Now hold down the "rear pwr" button on the front for about 2-3 seconds. The rear speakers and the subwoofer should turn back on.
Now switch the band on the front radio into something else other than what is selected for the RES. The rear speakers should then cut off again. Override again by pressing and holding "rear pwr" and the speakers will again come back on. Then choose another band again for the front, say CD (as long as there is a CD in it) and the rear speakers will again cut off.
I am hoping there is a way to program the thing or get a software fix so that once I override the speakers back on that they stay on, at least if only for one session, in other words as long as the car radio stays on. I suppose I could live with it if I had to do that once each time the radio was on and off, kinda like hitting the ok button on the Navi each time its powered up.
I hope I did not confuse you more.
Also, for anyone wanting to get update in reference to the HFL and the radio automatically turning back on, I would call your dealer and ask if they have the CD yet. Mine did not but he said that they are pretty good and usually withing 2-3 weeks of a service bulletin being posted they have the software. Save a trip if they do not have it yet. |

What is 'not work correctly'? That kinda get me hesitated to have the bug fix:creep: even if they have one. |

| I'm deployed right now, so doing this over email, but she says that she can't dial out and that people can't hear her when she calls in. Hopefully re-linking the phone will solve it. |

Yep sound like if she just re-links that will correct the problem. X-Fingers!
I'm about to get my first oil change and will ask them about this update too! |

I just got my first oil change and they did the Radio Update. No more radio on after HFL and no Phone or Radio settings were lost after the upgrade.
Everything seems to be fine. |
