The concept MDX had nice cross drilled rotors. I was wondering if anyone has upgraded their stock braking system to something like this.

No crossed drilled rotors on the production models, but stopping power has definitely improved. Don't have any numbers but I'm certain it is significantly better than my 04 MDX. Not sure there is a need other than cosmetic.

I was going by the post below and yes comestics do enter into it.

Spirited Driving - Country Back Road
Took her out in the country to test the suspension. A few hops in to triple digits and she stayed well-planted on the road. Very solid for an SUV. The only negative is the braking system. I will look in to alternative pads. But overall, very sweet. I was able to hit the apexes pretty hard and accelerate at the crest...very cool. The Sport setting does provide noticeable sport, especially triple digit curves.

Cross-drilled rotors are for show and are typically weaker under stress. There are forged ones on some high-end cars which are stronger, but you still lose surface area. For the MDX I am looking for pads which maintain their coefficient of friction over the operating temperature range. This plus good brake fluid (such as Castrol SRF) would make a difference.

Since there is no after-market demand for MDX performance parts, upgrading will be very difficult. The only thing I am considering right now is switching to Nitto Tires. Anyone want to buy a set of Michelins? :D

I have asked my Tuner to see what is available...intake, maybe FI, larger stabilizer bars, brakes, etc...but I have my doubts. :( He is the one who converted our Corvette in to a 'street-legal' race car. When I talked to him about the MDX, he said, "Here we go again!" :2:

I was thinking a multi piston caliper slotted and drilled rotors combo Yes a lot of drilled rotor is for looks which is why the concept car has it. Look how popular the Z51 option is on the C6 corvette. Transmission cooler and yadda yadda but most people zero in on the cross drilled rotors.

I would be interested in what your tuner says. I was looking at the X5 4.8 and the MDX does offer a great value Imo giving up 50 hp and some torque but the money saved makes a nice down on a c5.

Unfortunately, most Corvette owners have no idea about the mechanics of the car and even less owners ever venture out on to a race track to truly use its performance. But for those of us who do, we end up replacing many of the stock parts. First thing to go is the brakes!

I agree, the MDX represents a great value. If I find anyway to enhance its performance, I will let the Forum members know. BTW I will be at his shop in FL on Monday with the Vette (roll bar install), so I should have a better idea on availability for the MDX when I return next week.
