What kind of cable do I need to hook up my daughters' ipod nano to the aux input?

Shorter might be better, but just make sure it is Stereo and you should be fine.

what he said. couldn't be more simple!

I got this one:

Allows me to also watch videos/photos on RES using my iPod video.

The aux input is in the center console right? Then I am assuming there is aux button on the stereo itself? This would beat the heck out of the $300 cable sold by Acura :) I am assuming you could not control the iPod via the steering wheel controls though, right?

Thanx for your help

yes, the aux is in the center console (on sport and tech packages). aux button on the radio too.

"controlling" the ipod on the steering column is possible, but TRUST me when I say, you really have no control in the big picture.

Why would anyone pay $300 for the cable from Acura?
stoke2
it's not just a simple a mini stereo cable. it's a cable that interfaces specifically with the iPod that transfers sound, data and power. it charges the ipod in addition to providing all of the above. the $300 covers the cable, software, etc.

There are other threads about the IPOD adapter, and you quickly see that this accessory has a lot of bad press. Apparently it does not provide much control of the IPOD, especially for $300.

Personally, I purchased a $10 stereo cord at Target and an IPOD mount from Crutchfield. The mount sits aside the ignition switch enabling me to have full acess to the IPOD controls at the tips of my fingers. Works great. Sounds fine.

Would love to see a pic of your setup :)

Can someone clearly explain to me how to connect to the AUX (I am assuming its in the center facing the rear passengers) and what to push in the my center console (under navigation screen) to hear music?

I connected using a 3.5mm to dual rca cable with the port in the back console, and couldn't hear anything - maybe i wasn't selecting the correct input. Please also note what should be the settings for rear power, rear source etc.

Thanks a lot. Feel free to PM me.

Cheers!

The aux cable is plugged into the jack inside the center console (at least on my Sport model, no RES). Plug the other end into your MP3/IPOD headphone output and then press the AUX button on the audio. Should work fine. One trick, you may have to increase the volume on your MP3/IPOD as well as the MDX's audio system.

As far as pics--I will post them, but need to get my wife's digital camera from her.

For people wanting to connect their iPods using AUX cable, it will useful to know that the audio quality is decent, but not great. But if you take the trouble of burning a CD/DVD, you will find that the audio quality is really awesome.

I had initially chosen the AUX cable route as I usually carry my iPod and it has all the cool ways to browse/play music. I also have quite a few protected songs, which would have been a pain to convert to mp3. But I was not at all happy with the audio quality and have since then burned a DVD. I do lose the flexibility of iPod, but 90% of the time I anyway listen to music set to random track, which MDX can do with a DVD.

I really have not noticed an huge audio playback difference with IPOD in aux. I think it does sound better than XM, IMHO.

I used my 1/8" stereo cable as described in these posts for the first time yesterday and was VERY disappointed with the sound quality. Very little base and sounds like a tin can IMHO. I think I'll just keep burning CDs and listening to XM. At least I'm only out $5.00 to find this out instead of $300!

I think the audio quality is fine with the AUX input from my Ipod. Bass was actually too much as I had the bass output on both the Ipod and the MDX audio system up too high.

Maybe my ears are going bad from too much volume in my youth but I don't understand some of the complaints about the MDX audio system. It's a lot better than the 10 speaker JBL installed in my Toyota.

I did notice improved sound by turning on the Dolby PLx option.

I don't believe there is a AUX input in the Sport + Ent version of the MDX. The only thing in the center console is 115v power outlet and the removed the aux jack. how crazy this that...

Thanks all for your suggestions.

Inside the console on a sports+ent, there is no AUX - only a 110v jack.

So what I tried doing was connecting with the 3 RCA (Video/Left/Right) jacks on the back of the center console, where the temperature setting for rear passenger and headphone volume control is. I think my initial problem was that the volume was too low on the head unit, so i couldn't hear anything - after a little tinkering i was able to hear something.

So in the end, its exactly what I was trying to do before, but maybe the volume was too low and i pushed too many buttons for rear sound etc, instead of just hitting AUX.

I am going to go to dealer today, and try to get a refund back on the MusicLink POS. Wish me luck :)

Cheers!

I've yet to hear of a dealer who would not refund your money for that...it is a well known piece of junk. If he resists, point him to any of the many boards at this site.

It seems that the iPod/AUX set up doesn't produce as much output from the iPod (XM/CD puts out more sound), but I am not disappointed THAT much. It still sounds really good, just not as good as the CD/XM and I still prefer using the iPod for navigation.

I figured out the sound quality issue I was having connecting my iPod via AUX (RCA connections on the back seat console). iPod has a volume limiter setting - that was not set to the max (probably to prevent from people blowing out their ear drums!). Once I set that to max and also set the current iPod volume to max, then the sound was quite comparable to the playing a DVD or XM. At least I cannot notice any difference.

I agree with your statement. I guess perhaps I was a little harsh before.

Just to confirm to previous posters: There IS an AUX jack inside the STORAGE COMPARTMENT on the Sport package (but perhaps onot n the Sport + Ent package, as the AUX input is used by the DVD entertainment system).

Hope this clarifies this point

I found that when you turn the rear power off the rear entertainment system, the ipod through the AUX, the sound gets much better. When rear power is on, sound isn't as good.

I have bought a cable from Apple's store for $5 and had the job done. :)
