Hello everyone,
I finally got my MDX back from the repair shop - over 13K worth of damage in total - but mostly body damage. Every panel except 2 needed to be either replaced, or painted, and the rear suspension was replaced.
In addition to the major stuff, it got a new windshield and wiper arms. My question is whether or not the wiper arms were installed incorrectly, i.e., the driver's side arm on the passenger side; and the passenger side arm on the driver's side.
The reason I ask, is because they immediately looked "different" when I got the car back - something about them seemed unfamiliar, but I couldn't determine what.
Yesterday was the first day it rained here, and I immediately noticed a (loud) problem: When the wipers were at their maximum swing, an excruciatingly loud SCREECH was made - like metal on glass.
At first I thought it was worn blades, or the possibility that the wiper arms were just "tight" from being new.
Upon further inspection, I found that the passenger wiper arm spring (the coil spring that allows the arm to be swung away from the windshield) was making contact with the glass. See the image below:

You can see where the spring is making contact, creating the noise. Here is a shot of both arms:

I hope that someone can tell me if these arms are swapped or not - you can see that the arm currently on the driver's side has a bit of a "crook" in it, while the one on the passenger side is straight. Should these be swapped? I'd hate to pull them off only to make things worse...
By the way - how do you untighten those nuts and keep the arms from pivoting?

The left and right sides look correct. The driver side is indeed curved and the passenger side is straight.
However, the semi-circular coil spring thing should not be touching the windshield. I saw it varies approximately half-inch to an inch from the glass while the wiper is in motion. |

Indeed, I looked at some older photos of the car, and the arms looked correct - not sure why I didnt think of that before posting my question! :rolleyes:
Anyway - I loosened the nut on that arm a bit to help raise the arm at the pivot point a bit. This caused the point (where the spring tensioner is) to be more angled, allowing more clearance from the glass. I now have about a half inch, to a quarter inch across the range of motion. I didnt want to loosen it too much, and risk having the arm fall off - but it's tight enough that you can't turn it with your fingers ;) Should be ok I hope!

| Why not take it back to the place that made 13K? It's obviously their wrong doing. |

Yeah, I think I'll have them take one more look at it, just to be sure.
