just took delivery of a Steel Blue Nav/Sport

my 04 TL was off lease, so i get the 03 MDX, and darling wife gets the 07 (isn't marriage a marvelous thing?)

1st, I love the car, the color, the toys, the way it drives, etc, etc, etc

but i have some minor nit-picking items:

- no day/night mirror with this trim level, are you kidding me?

- when driving in the 'manual' mode, no display of gear (oops, wrong on this one!)

- can't display outside temp while in many display modes

- center console only has deep bins, i miss the 'upper' flat bin

obviously, none of these was a deal breaker, and i repeat, i love the car...

The display is below the tachometer

I agree with the day/night mirror. that has to be one the things i wish they included with the car. My dad's 06 TL was standard. In manual mode, the display is right under the tachometer, it says 1, do you see it? overall though, i love my ride. the only thing i don't like is my sales rep. promises too many things and doesnt come through with it. i have to compalin to acura. anyone know where i should start?
jabba9
my bad on the gear display

wow!, how could i miss that

thanks

For me the biggest things are:

- Second row set doesn't split in the middle... If you have ski's and are with several people you're out of luck... I use ski carrier now
- No D2 to use engine break going downhll. I could use manual mode but that's quite a hassle
- No instant mileage (this is actually useful to figure out max mileage you could get for each speed/surface)
- Also agree would like to have more info concurrently on display: temperature plus trip computer... Also I don't get why I don't see trip distance plus average consumption
- VCM perhaps to get better mileage on highway

Otherwise great car especially the handling. No leaning in corners...
crazymjb
The RDX we test drove had instant mileage on the Navi display, the MDX must as well?

Mike
rsgacura
Phone Book Import must have been working on most popular phones, Acura really made a big mistake here.

No strange enough it doesn't. I also noticed that the refresh rate is slow (couple of seconds between refresh).

Even stranger is that I can't see average mileage with total miles for the trip.

The center console should have an power outlet for a cell phone charger! so you can hide the charger like you could on the older model.
dshedrick
MDXNH, what model X do you have? The sprt/ent does have the 115v outlet in the center console. You can use that for a cell phone charger.

Not sure why they omitted this in the base MDX. But there is an AC outlet in the front arm rest of the Tech Package.
Husker4theSpurs
In the ENTERTAINMENT package only, the AUX in the center console is omitted for an outlet. The only power point I can find up front in the TECH or SPORT is right below the Nav controls.

did they get rid of the touch screen for the nav?

Yes they did ... but it really doesn't seem like a big deal surprisingly.

I miss the fact that the second row of seats does not fold flat. (They did on my last SUV)

And, I don't understand why I can't download my cell phone book. Major drawback that I hope they fix.

But I love the MDX, it is very comfortable and drives great.

I bought the Day Night Mirror from Tim and will be installing it this weekend. I agree it should have been included.
dj-mdx2
Agree with the absence of the day-night mirror- that is especially irksome on a "luxury" vehicle. Maybe those of us that upgraded can get a refund when Acura decides to make it standard on the 08. Another peeve is the flimsy door release handles - the old ones were at least chrome-looking.

I really miss the instantaneous MPG display. It was challenging to try to get the best fuel economy on my 01.

I don't like the new plood, although I can't say the old was excellent. It did look more like woodgrain. To its credit, the tiger wood does transition well from the black dash to my bourdeaux interior, so it does serve its function.

I was told that the auto day/night mirror was not included on the RDX or the MDX because of the tint on the rear windows that comes from the factory. Since Acura has these windows darker already for you, they thought the auto day/night mirror would not be needed in most cases.

I agree though that it should have it as a luxury car. Hell, my TSX has it!

Yeah that's Acura's version of being cheap. The Canadian models have the auto-dim mirror standard. Hopefully it returns to the standard list in '08. I've heard there a some dealer that automatically install that accessory on all MDX's.

I don't know if anyone experience a bit of a gear issue.. I noticed at about 60-70km/h, the gear tends to "stick" - like a feeling of going from 1st to 4th, feels heavy when accelerating..

What I'm thinking is that the MDX pulls into 5th gear at about 60-70km/h which it should only be on at 4th....

Anyone noticed this problem?

Too bad they don't offer a 6-speed.

This is the only beef I noticed for this SUV..
MDX4now
For all you 2007+ owners coming from an older MDX, where do you put your odds and ends "junk?"

As far as I can tell, other than the cup holders and large center bin, there isn't a place to stash stuff like chap-stick, keys, receipts (ya know...crap ;) ) like there is in the 2001-2006's.

In the 2001-2006 models, you had the big cubby bin in front of the shifter (or smaller cubby area if you had the DVD player, and you also had the 2nd level of the center console which was/is great for stashing little stuff.

I primarily drive an Infiniti M35x, which other than the cup holders and center bin, has no place to put stuff.

For me, it's not so much of a problem, but try telling my wife or all the other woman that drive the MDX to cut back on car clutter. My wife calls her MDX "her moving purse."

There is that new storage area on the passenger side of the center stack that can accomodate several DVD's and smallish items. There is also a small coin drawer (or at least I call it a drawer) below the center dash controls. I also put small items in the cupholders as I rarely use them for cups. Everything else goes in the womblike center armrest with its inviting vaginal opening.:D

The shifting depends on several factors: going up or downhill, how much gas (kickdown) ....

I would think 5th gear at 60-70 km/h is correct if you're not flooring the gas pedal. Fuel economy is best when you shift as early as possible.

I did test drive the Audi Q7 with 6 speeds and I found it shifting constantly. Not sure if that's because of the extra gear or they way they setup the transmission.

I'm primarily upset about the "options".

•You can't get the power liftgate without the "Entertainment" package. That's flat out stupid.
•The iPod Music Link is useless.
•The auto day/night mirror should be standard
•You should have a choice between Sirius and XM (I know that manufacturers have preexisting deals and whatnot, but it would be a nice option like Infiniti offers)
•Phone book import useless except for one Sony phone apparently
•One more charger outlet would have been nice
•No place to securely put your coins!

I'm nitpicking, because I LOVE this car, but if anyone from Acura is reading.....
MDXNH
I have Tech Rear ent.... I will look again maybe I missed it

Just got my MDX/Tech on Friday. 500 miles.
- iPod link is worthless.
- No RDS?! (Radio Display for song title on FM)
- Should be able to store AM and FM together on presets.
- No Phone book for my bluetooth phone.
- No Power tailgate or tailgate window.
- Need a Key to start. BTW, the key is rather large.
- 5 Speed instead of 6.
- Navi screen hard to see when sunny.
- Mostly front drive so I experience torque steer.
- Moonroof deflector wind noise.

Otherwise, I love this vehicle! My wife wants her own.

- I know it's really not necessary due to the tinted rear window, but not having auto-dim rear view mirror does bother me. I feel Acura cuts costs by giving you that cheap mirror. Even my old 2k2 Maxima SE that cost 1/2 of the X has it.
- The other thing that I dislike about the X is the steering wheel. Again, my Maxima has a nice perforated leather-wrapped steering wheel. The X steering wheel doesn't feel as nice either.
- I also wish the top of the dashboard is not leather or smooth. IMHO, the texture cheapens it too.
- Fog lights don't turn on when the headlights are off.

That said, I love the way it drives and how it handles. The instruments look busy, but I like it that way (may be because it makes me feel that it has lots of options). Seats are comfortable and roomy too.

I noticed that the DRL appears to use the lower lights.
Are those also the fog lights? I hope not.

That said in general it's a bad idea to use fog lights when there's no fog. Reminds me of Europe where they even fine you if you do it since it can be irritating for other drivers.

There are two lights per side. The inner lights are the DRL's whereas the outer are the Fog Lights.

I love my MDX too. While I think the auto-dimming mirror should have been inlcuded, I'm not that distraught about it.

What I wish we had were dual buckets, instead of a bench seat in the middle row.

I hear ya. Now that you've mentioned it, that's what I miss about my 95 Ody when I still had just 2 kids. But now my 3 kids can all sit in the 2nd row on the X, so I guess it's OK for now.

I wish the MID was voice-controlled. I always used to switch back and forth to Trip Computer/ MPG and Navi. But the new info in the MID, like individual tire pressures and the status of the Shawd is spectacular.

I have now owned 3 MDX cars since Oct 7, 2000. My 07 Sport is great except for two things.
The fist grips me daily: A long 15 second delay before the rear view camera works. My then I have back out of my parking place and am off in Drive with no need for the Camera. My 04 Camera worked as soon as I had the car in reverse.

Second, the crumy design of the bluetooth not being able to transfer my Motorola Razer Phone Address Book into the car. I will start loading name and addresses into the Nav System Manually.

According to handsfreelink.com, that's the fault of hte phones, not the Acura. It looks like Acura included the capbility to transfer numbers, but only two phones currently have the capability to use this feature.

I believe the fault lies in the software that Acura chose to put in their cars. Other car companies can import most phones on the market ie Audi w/Verizon Razr. Hopefully a software update for either the phone or the car will come out soon. I would also like to see the name come up.
JoeV
The fault is not in the Razr.

I have a Parrot Bluetooth in my CL and it uses the phone book in the Razr without any problem.

It also rings in the speakers when you dial a number from the phone itself.

My MDX requires me to transfer the call 'after' it is answered. Someone is going to get hurt looking at the phone to see when it is answered so that they can hit the button and say transfer. Not good!
