Hi everyone. I've opened the back hatch of my 04 MDX a number of times after the rain before to find water standing on the cargo liner (luckily its the rubber thing and no permanent damage is done). So finally tonight in the rain I climbed into the back to see if I could find out where the problem is. I park the car outside since we live on base and there are no garages.
So there's water dripping off the driver's side 3rd row seatbelt, which was fullly retracted and hanging over the cargo area. No water on the passenger side, just the driver's side. The water is dripping enough to pool water in the cargo area so there's obviously a big leak somewhere. It doesn't feel wet above the seatbelt so my guess is that the water is coming through the hole where the seatbelt is bolted to the back pillar. Anyone ever heard of this one before? Where's the water getting from outside to the 3rd row seatbelt?
I'm living in Germany right now with the Navy so I can't just run down to the local Acura dealership. There are no acura dealerships, only honda, and they don't carry the MDX over here so I would be flying blind at the dealership. At least now I know where the water is entering the car, now I just need know where its getting on the seatbelt from.
It's an 04 if that makes any difference. |

I'm going to say leaky hatch seal or leaky window but I may not totally understand what is getting wet. Antenna is a possiblity. Tailight is another great place for moisture to seep in.
This is happening while you are parked and not immediately after driving ? Is the car tilted at all in the parking space ? |

It's happening after being parked in the rain. I haven't noticed it driving before. And yes the car is slightly tilted back if that makes a difference. I've checked the tailgate seal and it looks fine. it really looks as if the water is coming inside the body somehow and then seeping out where the seatbelt is bolted to the aft pillar. Since the tailight is below this I don't suspect it.
What's getting wet is the 3rd row seatbelt, there's water dripping off the end of it, but it doesn't look as if the water is coming down from the inside of the roof. The water seems to start around the seatbelt somewhere. |
