| This might be coincidental but...I had the oil changed and VTM fluid replaced (that was supposed to be all) in my '02 MDX. Had to take it to a Honda dealer since no Acura dealer in town but so far that's been okay for all but warranty work. When the paperwork arrives it says all under the same entry "Replace VTM Fluid, Service Transmission and Replace Fluid, VTM Fluid". The service writer thinks they just keyed in the wrong code. So then I'm getting on the freeway 3 miles away and at 60 mph I hear this spinning metal sound like gears turning against each other. Not real loud or too high pitched, but it was there. Others heard it also and joked that maybe they forgot to put in the oil so I pull over and checked that and it was okay. A week later the noise continues off and on at higher speeds, it doesn't seem to vary with how hard the engine is working only the actual speed, when decelerating it slowly winds down and goes away at about 35 mph, and occurs going straight and turning, doesn't seem to matter. It doesn't start until about 50 mph. No warning lights came on. I had the dealer check the fluids again and they said all was okay and it was just coincidental the noise occurred at that time and thought it was probably my new tires (but those were a month old). They were kind of at a loss about the service transmission entry on the paperwork. They suggested I leave it with them, which sounded to me like it could lead to exploratory surgery. Any suggestions on what to do next? I was thinking of asking them to service both the transmission and replace the VTM fluid even if I have to pay for it again. The transmission was serviced only 20K miles ago. Thoughts? |
