hello everyone,
I need some help from this forum as I'm in the midst of buying a '07 MDX and trying to understand if it makes sense to spend the extra $2K for the Sport over the Tech version of the MDX.
I used to own the '03 MDX with NAV & RES so I plan to definitely get the entertainment package with either version but not sure if the leather seats, suspension and maybe the wheel difference justify the delta? Is there anything else I get on the SPORT?
Also I'm able to buy the TECH for $700 over invoice and $1000 over invoice for the SPORT - is that a good deal or should I haggle with them more?
Please advise as I'd like to buy it tomorrow (Saturday)
Thanks guys - this site helped me with my past purchase so I plan to do the same on this purchase as well.

I am the type who seems to eventually regret not going for all the bells and whistles. I too was stuck between the Sport and Tech with entertainment package. I know my wife really enjoys using the 'Comfort' Button on the Sport model.
Luckily there is not a bad choice between the two!
Good luck and let us know. |

| I believe the sport/ent pakage is a great deal. The driving dynamics with the magneto-rheological shocks is simply amazing and much more stable at higher speed. I also like telling people "yep, fully loaded" |

| If your budget can accomodate it, go for the Sport package + Entertainment. You won't regret it. |

I was in the SAME situation about 1 week ago when we purchased our Sport/Ent. Infact I left the dealer with them searching for a Tech/Enter Black on Black.... The next day after beating myself up I went down to the dealer and told them to change the search for a Sport/Ent same color scheme. They found and ordered it that day... I am very happy with my decision and X. To be totally honest I notice NO difference in or out of the SPORT vs COMFORT mode... Maybe SLIGHTLY bumpier ride in SPORT but you REALLY have to look for it. I really upgraded mainly for the periforated seats, etching, and auto adjustable lights that come with the SPORT package. I saw a TECH/ENT vehichle at the dealer (demo) without the periforated seats and you could actually already see wear. I know that sounds far fetched but you could tell a lot of people had driven taht vehicle.... Anyway, thats my 2 cents... GO FOR THE SPORT/ENT if its affordable for ya.....

There were two reasons I didn’t get the sport/ent: money (preferred not to spend the extra $2K) and – most important – the wait (couldn’t wait 2 months for the car). Though I, too, couldn’t feel much difference in the ride on my test drive, the other features really caused me to agonize a bit over my decision.
So, here’s my 2 cents ... If money and the anticipated delivery time are not issues for you, and you like the sport/ent’s features, then choose the sport/ent.

| Do you really need the DVD player and power tailgate? That was the deciding factor for me between Sport and Sport/Ent. My answer? Nope, have DVD players in other cars, never use them, besides, my brother in law has a car audio shop and I can get that done whenever. Those were my reasons. Definitely get the Sports package, I think the premium price for it is worth it, but as far as entertainment goes? That's your call. If you have small children and the dvd player will be a headache reliever, then by all means, the $2k is well spent. Remember, $2k over how ever many years you will own the car will not mean that much over that span :4: it might mean a lot now, but your payments won't be that much higher if you finance. go for the gold! |

| For some the $2000 premium for the Sport may or may not be feasible, always a personal decision. For me the extra features (seats, lights, wheels etc) made eminent sense as I believe when trade time comes around in 3-5 years I believe the Sport can recoup most of the initial investment. The bonus for me aside from resale is the handling and/or comfort. The ENT conversely didn't appeal to me as we really don't need to entertain or coddle someone in heated seats on that rare occasion when the 2nd seats are occupied. For young families however it could be a necessity, especially on long trips. |

From my experience you always lose a % on any option. I've never seen getting 100% back for an option or package. Exceptions might be must have options like power windows (but the MDX comes loaded with basic necessities).
You would rather buy a package if you want to have it instead of resale.... The residuals for the MDX conform that as well. You do lose more on the more expensive packages. |

| While every penny counts, in the end you're investing between $45-50K on a new vehicle and the $2K delta will be marginal, especially if you are attracted to the added features. I will say the perforated leather seating is very comfortable, but I wouldn't overlook the basic leather package in the Tech as well - it's still very comfortable. The biggest difference lies in the suspension systems and I did notice an appreciable difference. The Sport handling is incredible when put to the test. Your choice to stay with Rear Entertainment is the icing on the cake. I went with it because I have little ones, and it's been well worth the expense. I also experience richer sound out of the dvd player, in some cases for the dvd-a disks - depending on how they were originally recorded. Even without the dvd player those same type of disks will blow standard cds away when played in either the Tech or Sport models. Your quotes above invoice are in line with recent posts, as the dealers, in most cases are finally playing ball. Should you continue to haggle - sure - why not? Unless the car will be handed over for free, there will always be room to come down further in price. Best of luck! |

Here is my take on it:
If it was my car I would buy the sport. I like the perforated leather, the shocks, the trim. The lights I do not care about that much.
However,
I bought the 07 for my wife. She would never appreciate the shocks, the metal trim would get dented by her eventually, and the perf leather is more difficult to clean then the smooth leather with my 3 year old. Again, the adaptive lights don't mean much to me since it really helps other drivers and I think they should be standard anyway. If the lights swiveled in turns, then they may be worth something. Also, when I drove the sport and the regular on a little "road course" nearby, I did not notice that much of a difference that I needed to spend the extra dough for the sport for my wife and a car which I may drive once a week. It (base suspension) still really handled well enough to impress the hell out of me.
Again, if it was mine, since I am a car nut, I would go for the sport just to say I got it. But for the real world, the extra 2k was spent on running boards (so my kid can get in the car) bra, cargo cover, body side moldings, cargo liner, auto mirror and eventually the tow package which runs about 900 installed. Plus, the sport and entertainment are limited right now and I did not want to wait. As it was, we had to check around to find the right ext/int color combo in the tech/ent. |

Looks like I will be buying the Sport/Entertainment today as they finally located one for me with the color I was interested in. Nimbus Grey with Ebony.
I agree with most of you that I couldn't tell much of a difference in driving both the tech and sport right after each other but the wheels to me are nicer on the sport and the perf leather to me for some reason feels nicer/softer.
The lights and liftgate are nice to haves but not a deal breaker. I couldn't find the trim difference to it would be nice know what those are so I can give my mind to ease as the salesperson didn't know either.
Anyways - as always I really appreciate this forums help and the community we have here sharing each others opinions.
As for resale value - here's my thinking - I kept my '03 MDX for 4 years so if I keep this one for the same time - then $500 per yr won't kill me if I end up spending the extra $2k.
Now I need to tack on the other accessories like the day/night mirror, all season mats and cargo tray plus the side steps.
Anyone know if I should get those from the dealer or is there a group buying that I can take part in?
Thanks guys! & gals if any :)
