MDX Alignment Problem or Tire Problem? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Got our 07 MDX with Tech and Ent a couple of weeks ago! Love the car and all the gadgets that come along with it!

One problem though . . .

Noticed a slight pull to the right when driving . . . took it back to the dealership (a bit pissed, "new car shouldn't do this!") for alignment check. Was told that alignments were fine, pull was probably due to the tires (radial pull?) They rotated the tires and the problem seems to be gone, at least minimized. I will have to drive it around more to confirm that.

But my question is, even if the problem is minimized now, what will happen down the road when I rotate the tires again? Will it come back?

What do you guys think I should do? I would hate to go back to the dealer again . . .

Who else do you expect to solve the problem for you?

I had exactly the same problem. My X was pulling to the right, and it was more than just a slight. Dealer check the tire pressure, they were fine. They also did a "fine tuning" , didn't work. The second time I demanded them to do an alignment and balancing. Problem solved:D . It drive straight as an arrow now.:2:

A tire dealer that sells Michellin. The problem is most likely a tire pull, and an authorized Michellin dealer can replace a tire under warranty.

Do what I did with my 2003 when bought new. I had a vibration between 72 and 75 mph. I drove the X back, handed Supertech the keys and asked them politely to call me when the vehicle drives straight as a wip with NO vibrations at any speed for that matter! Until then keep the car! After 3 attempts they got it STRAIGHT ! Be nice and polite.......Would I accept a $45K plus vehicle to pull any direction other than straight, heck no! Would I bring it to a Michellin tire shop, heck no, that's what a warranty is for, let YOUR dealership do that ! :1:

I feel like having a moment of clarity right now. Me telling you to take it to a Michelin dealer is passing the buck and making this nightmare job that of some other unlucky shop. Sorry. But thought you all might like a little insight as to what "take it to the Michelin dealer" really means...

To be perfectly honest, getting a tire warrantied for a pull is a really a monster pain in the ass for any shop that tackles the job. For some odd reason, getting though the red tape to get the factory to pay for the warranty claim is especially hard with a tire. And of course, if we do, the factory will only pay for the one tire that's bad, whcih makes us have to narrow it down to more than just a pair. So by roatating tires front to rear we can narrow down where the bad tire is to at least one of the ones on the front...problem is which one do we replace? So we can swap out a wheel/tire from another vehicle (if we have one), road test, and see if that made a difference. If it didn't, repeat with the other side. By the time we get it narrowed down to the exact tire, I have a tech that's spent 3 hours shuffling tires around and going on road tests to the freeway and back, not to mention you get your vehicle returned with 20 miles on it. And the factory will only pay us 1/2 hour, if that, for all this...since they apparently think we all have a F1 pit crew on hand that can change out wheels and make a lap in less than a minute.

Thanks for the replies!

The dealer cross rotated the tires (and supposely checked the alignment) and I can hardly feel the pull anymore. My worry is if I bring it back to the dealer, they will say, hey, it's not pulling now! But what if I rotate the tires again later on? Will it start pulling again? Love the X, hate the headache!

Think I am going to drive around it more to really confirm if the pull is indeed gone. If not, back to the dealership it goes.

Hey Fabvsix,

Which Acura dealer did you go to? Oakland or Hopkin? I am on the East Bay too.

In this specific case worry about the future when the future happens.

Acura of Pleasanton. AVOID Acura of Concord as they are horrible at sales and service!

What is your observation of the Oakland dealership?

I have never dealt with the service dept. in Oakland. But their sales people are pretty much your typical sales folks with light to moderate pressure, not too bad. When I was shopping for my X, I told them about the best offer I got and they didn't want to even match it, so I ended up getting my X elsewhere at over $3300 under MSRP.

I will probably check out Pleasanton when it's time for service. Pleasanton, Hopkins and Oakland are the closest right now. Rumor has it that they are trying to open an Acura dealership at the Fremont Automall off 880.

when you got the tres balanced and alignend, did they use the hunter roadforce pro machines? If not, get it done by one of those.

This problem has reported a while ago by several (here or on Edmunds.com). There's a service bulletin referenced specifically for this problem.

Sometimes the rotors can be bad as well and causing this issue.

You got a link to this service bulletin? Thanks.

Does it pull to the right only in the right lane? Try the left lane. Might just be the road having a higher crown in the middle.

It's references here though the link doesn't appear to work anymore (I know it worked before as I opened it then):

Thanks for the link.

By the way, after the dealer cross rotated the tires, my X is not particularly pulling to the right anymore, at least not as much as before. On the few occasions when it slightly drifts (either LEFT or RIGHT now), I am not sure if it is due the car itself or the crappy road - the freeway around here is kind of beaten up.

Gotta love the X!
